It’s time to talk about something nobody wants to talk about. There’s a lot of fear about it, and people don’t want to speak up. But I think we need to. I think it’s time. It needs to be said. I’m done with smashburgers. Blech. The fad has run its course. Everybody sells a smashburger now, and sometimes only smashburgers, and they all taste the same. Too salty. Two crusty. The bun is chewy. It’s probably possible to make a good one, but nobody does. Even the smashburgers the critics herald are just meh. I now actively dislike most of them; even the best of them are just OK. Yeah, when they came on the scene, they were interesting and different. Burgers probably needed a little shaking up. Well, that’s happened. Now, they’re no longer interesting, and they’re not different. Everybody seems to think they have to have a smashburger on the menu. They don’t It’s time for a burger renaissance. Back to thick juicy patties, tomato, lettuce, and onion, and a pickle. Some mayo, some ketchup, maybe some mustard. A real bun, fluffy, not gooey. The whole smash thing is over. I’m done with it. And I know that’s going to make some people sad, but nothing makes me sadder than a depressing, squashed, burnt pseudo-burger on my plate.
