@luinalaska Growing up meal time meant good food and family. Us kids generally looked forward to and ate what was on the table but we were never forced to eat it. If it was something we truly didn't like a pb&j and a can of soup was the option.

99.9999% of my feelings about picky eaters are a direct result of my father being the worst picky eater I’ve ever met. The man eats nothing. He had a period of life where he only ate white food. I don’t mean white people food I mean the food was literally white. His acceptable foods change over time. He wants zero seasoning. He currently wants soy milk, a very specific kind of cracker, rotisserie chicken, and almond butter. There were the Dr Pepper years. Now it’s no Dr Pepper. So don’t take it personally. I just don’t want to hear about it. I’ve spent entirely too much time in my life occupied by my dad randomly demanding a burger after refusing hamburger meat for five years. Is this autism on his part? UNCLEAR. What is clear is that I’m wired to assume it’s you controlling your interior life by controlling food and thereby making it my problem to help you regulate. So please note having some legit problem like celiac isn’t some personality flaw I sympathize. That must suck. Endlessly talking about it is though.

@Algmanda A lot of elderly people are on food stamps. They very often do have zero income. Why would we not let them buy alcohol with their food stamps if it is what brings them joy?

The 'serve what you eat or they wait 12 hours' approach assumes every kid is neurotypical. Some kids will genuinely starve before eating something that triggers a sensory aversion. Fed is best. Even if it's chicken nuggets.

No parent needs to have "child foods" like sugary cereals or processed chicken nuggets at home to "get their child to eat." For example, you serve them whatever you are eating for dinner. If they don't eat it, that's perfectly fine. Breakfast will be served in 12 hours.

@therealjcwilson @AngelaBelcamino I'd rather see an occasional bottle of soda and a bag of chips than a 12 pack of ramen, a 3 pack of Mac and cheese, frozen pizzas, chicken nuggets and all the other processed crap that passes for "food" that is the steady diet of half the kids these days.

I just went to her first recital where the kids are singing the theme song from the musical Rent, about how many minutes are left in a year in the context of being diagnosed with aids. Since this post has caught interest, let me add…. Foreign language in high school is for the majority of students an epic waste of time because there is not much learning that actually occurs. Students spend 600-700 hours in a foreign language class. Is the return on that time high enough to justify requiring the class for most students?Or, could that time be better spent elsewhere? Keep foreign language as an elective option. Get rid of the requirement.

Also, we all have translators in our pockets. This is one of the many requirements in education whose time has expired. Public ed must stop wasting students’ time.

@clharrington024 Random crazy idea: instead of teaching K-12 students a foreign language, teach them sign language (e.g. ASL). Sign language can be useful for communicating in noisy, silent, or underwater environments in addition to communicating with deaf people.

American high schools are wrong for requiring American students to learn Spanish in order to earn advanced diplomas, while not giving those same students the option to take practical classes like electrical or wood shop.

Florida SAVE Act DOES NOT address the biggest election fraud engine in the state, mail-in ballots. Everything FL legislature is passing via this current political stunt is already law. There is nothing new but DeSantis is patting himself in the back for???? President Trump’s election integrity EO procedures will expose even Florida’s fraud. Will be good to see.

I had Grok break down Trump’s EO, and there were some interesting points: 1) This EO includes the involvement of DHS creating state citizenship lists for every state. DHS’s role in election security is expanding. 2) Mail-in ballots are being reformed, with “unique intelligent mail barcodes”, and these ballots can only be mailed to citizens on the state citizenship lists created by DHS and SSA. 3) The order also directs the AG to prioritize investigations and prosecutions of election-related crimes, particularly related to distributing/collecting illegal ballots to/from non-citizens. In conclusion, Trump is using DHS to secure elections via managing the voter rolls and preventing mail-in ballot fraud, while the DOJ has been instructed to prosecute any attempts to cheat. This is what the Dems have been worried about the entire time. This is why they have been refusing to fund DHS and throwing a fit about ICE. It was always about election security.
