@david_perell just closed his cohort-based-course (CBC) Write of Passage. I had a CBC for 9 cohorts before I closed it down and his letter struck a nerve. Is @ship30for30 next? Here are 10 reasons why the CBC model is hard to pull off long-term and how to make it work👇🏽

@sama The 3-post strategy was a smart move to break up the backlash. The selling out of your soul and principles - not so smart.

Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

@ChrisCernoch @ryangrim I hope forensic experts can determine from the sound of the first shot if it came from Alex’s gun - the agent discharging Alex’s gun intentionally or by accident is a negligent mistake at best and a serious crime at worst.

@Nicolascole77 I wonder if the ghostwriting clients also look like the demographic of the ghostwriters. I think I spot a market opportunity for older and female clients… 🤔

Been freelance writing for a while but still struggling? These Ghostwriters are just a handful of our most successful students from our Premium Ghostwriting Academy (and some of them have only been ghostwriters for less than 1 year).

@LucyBibb @DubDublin @kaidi_wu All Americans are descended from immigrants (unless you're a Native American), so you're saying we should ban people like your great-grandparents from coming over?

@DubDublin - News flash: You're not being replaced by H1-Bs, you're being replaced by AI. The tech recession is hitting the management layer the hardest. Most of my former clients - senior tech execs - have been laid off. With AI, companies can run leaner w/ junior talent and without the expensive middle layer.

I don't code (though I can, a little). I build and lead others (including hardware and software developers) in building new, revolutionary things that are generally viewed as "impossible". (See my reply to a comment above on my record. It's pretty decent, if I do say so myself...)

Upwork and FIVERR are running a tipping scam. Freelancers offshore do not expect a "tip". And what country has a 40% tip???? The worst: They don't disclose they keep part of the tip as "service fees" 😡 At this rate, I'm one tipping screen away from not tipping, ever.

Remember: IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO ASK FOR FEEDBACK. YOU NEED TO ASK THE RIGHT PEOPLE FOR IT. AND YOU NEED TO IMPLEMENT IT. That's the way to avoid RayGun moments in your career.

If she had gotten the right feedback from the right people and implemented it for 15 years, she would have done better. She may not have been good enough to medal, but she would have earned at least 1 point! And that would have been an amazing accomplishment to celebrate!

Didn't anyone tell her before she got to the Olympics? What went wrong? 3 traps that you must avoid so you don't get embarrassed in public 👇🏽

⚠️ Trap 1: Not seeking out the best in your field You're a big fish in a small pond. If you never seek to meet and learn from the best, you'll never understand and appreciate what it takes to be a black belt in your craft. ⚠️ Trap 2: Not asking the best for feedback The ego doesn't want to face the truth that it's not that good. You have to reframe it as: "I'm not good at this YET". You'll tell yourself that this expert is "too busy" and "they'll never pay attention to a newb like me". The ego knows what's coming and is trying to dodge the truth. But sooner or later the truth will come out. And the longer it takes, the more painful it will be. ⚠️ Trap 3: Not acting on the feedback Your ego may allow you to hear the honest feedback. But then it will attempt to give you a list of excuses why the feedback: • won't work for you • is made up (because the person is mean or "jealous") • is not realistic • is optional And you'll say to yourself: "At least I listened to the feedback!" But all you did was waste a golden opportunity to grow and improve. We can all improve, no matter our limitations and lack of talent 💪 A certain breakdancer had 15 years of breakdancing before she made it to the Olympics. One has to wonder how much feedback she got (and from whom), and how much of it she implemented during those years to earn zero points. If she had gotten the right feedback from the right people and implemented it for 15 years, her performance would have had to be better. She may not have been good enough for a medal, but she would have probably gotten at least one point above zero. And that would have been an amazing accomplishment worthy of celebration.

@BrianAndrenNS Yes, exactly. But CBCs are like a drug - it's hard to get off of the cash injection they provide. But it needs to be done sooner than later because then the evergreen is set up for success vs. living in the shadow of the CBC.

@lkostova I think CBC is a good place to start before going evergreen. I did this for one of my previous offers. By having a live session you can answer questions and handle corner cases on the fly. You do this until the course is pretty much flushed out. Then it is ready for evergreen.

The transition between a CBC and evergreen is tricky. But it's doable as long as you provide the structure and motivation for ppl to complete the work when it’s not taught live. Your daily presence in the community is a must. That's how you get out of the CBC trap. Thoughts?

A possible solution? A hybrid CBC-evergreen model that creators like @thejustinwelsh and @jayclouse are pioneering. 1. Build pent-up demand in a hot audience and launch a CBC to capture premium pricing. 2. After the demand curve flattens, turn it into evergreen.
