An open letter to Elon Musk,
I found out about you and Tesla back in 2012. I was so inspired by the mission, and by your leadership qualities, that it become one of my first investments.
By 2014, I was able to buy my first house and move out of my parent's basement because of that investment.
I become so inspired by the mission, I joined the company between 2017 to 2021.
Because of that, I was able to retire and pursue my passions.
Your ability to lead multiple companies at once, at a very high level at every single one of them, has been awe inspiring. It truly feels like we're living through an incredible technological revolution, with you at the helm.
Through that journey, we've seen you go through some weird times. Private at $420. Pot on Rogan. Bankwupt. Twitter. Trump, DOGE. Etc.
Regardless of the noise - some of it self-inflicted - we've watched you champion extremely important issues that face civilization. I think I speak for the majority in saying we're grateful for your efforts.
Especially during the last few years post-COVID, where things took a very weird turn.
And because of your efforts - buying X, being vocal, backing Trump - the Overton Window has shifted dramatically, and we can now discuss the real things that are facing us.
You even tried to take on the US fiscal problem with DOGE. Although there's a lot of work still to get done, you got us started somewhere.
I think now is the perfect time to recapture that positive side of you that inspired so many.
I've been fully aligned with your frustrations, and I'm glad you're at the forefront. Free speech, climate change, space exploration, the US deficit. These are all existential and incredibly important.
However, it now feels like we're at a cross-roads. Due to the US government being what it is - too slow, bloated, and old to change - we need everyone on board to push for serious change to dig ourselves out of the hole.
We all need to be inspired that a better future is still in front of us, and all the work we've put in thus far was worth it.
I think recapturing that energy will maximize the most positive outcome for civilization.
Just my 2 cents.

Groups are more intolerant than individuals.
Partisanship is tribal in the sense that its members are more interested in what other members like than in the underlying ideas, which generates the type of political pathologies we are seeing today, like Christians voting for Isr43l and libertarians for protectionism.

YC's Diana Hu: 'Good Enough' vs. Top 1% Software of Engineers
"There's going to be a generation of software engineers that are good enough because it's so easy to retool there with code gen tools. The barrier to enter is so low.
But to be exceptional, like the top 1%, you're going to need to get into deliberate practice."
