CUPE Local 416

As part of our 2026 Ontario Lobby Day at Queen’s Park, TCEU Local 416 and our Toronto emergency service partners Toronto Professional Firefighters' Association and Toronto Police Association spent the day engaging with provincial decision‑makers on the shared challenges facing emergency services in #Toronto. Across our services, we are all managing four urgent issues: ➡️ Service sustainability: Demand rising faster than resources ➡️ Public safety: Consistency and reliability at risk ➡️ Workforce capacity: Burnout, injuries, WSIB pressures, and mental‑health impacts ➡️ Intergovernmental partnership: The need for predictable provincial and federal participation A big thank you to Premier Doug Ford and Minister David Piccini for meeting with our Paramedic Unit and partners and for their openness in working with us to tackle the challenges first responders are facing in Toronto. We’d also like to thank Marit Stiles and John Fraser as well as their caucus members who met with us on the challenges emergency services personnel face. Local 416 is committed to building relationships and working with the city and the province to better serve our members, so they can better serve the people of Toronto.

Local 416 is pleased to announce the appointment of Domenic Maugeri to the OMERS Sponsors Corporation for the 2026–2029 term. Domenic brings deep experience, commitment, and a strong understanding of both pension governance and the priorities of our members. Domenic will ensure that: ➡️ Our members’ pensions remain secure and sustainable, ➡️ OMERS continues to protect defined-benefit retirement income, and ➡️ Toronto municipal outside workers have a credible, informed, and effective voice at the table. His work will play a key role in shaping the future of our pension plan. #StrongerTogether

TCEU Local 416 members are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of a CUPE Local 79 City of Toronto Recreation worker who died while on the job earlier today. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their family, friends, coworkers, and to the entire Oakridge community.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

There’s a winter storm incoming, and TCEU Local 416’s Winter Maintenance & Transportation crews will be out around the clock clearing snow and keeping Toronto moving.   Please help keep workers and everyone safe:   • Give snowplows and salt trucks plenty of space • Never pass or follow equipment closely • Slow down near crews working on roads and sidewalks • Park off snow routes and narrow streets when possible • Clear your sidewalks and nearby drains   Our crews are working in tough, dangerous conditions so the city can keep running. A little patience makes a big difference.   Stay safe, Toronto — and thank a snow worker. ❄️🚜 #StrongerTogether

Shout out to Toronto’s winter maintenance crews 👏 While the weather’s been rough, Toronto Civic Employees Union Local 416 transportation and winter operations workers have been out there keeping roads and sidewalks safe. This is what experienced, accountable public service looks like. Proud of the work they do and proud these services remain public.
