As part of our 2026 Ontario Lobby Day at Queen’s Park, TCEU Local 416 and our Toronto emergency service partners Toronto Professional Firefighters' Association and Toronto Police Association spent the day engaging with provincial decision‑makers on the shared challenges facing emergency services in #Toronto.
Across our services, we are all managing four urgent issues:
➡️ Service sustainability: Demand rising faster than resources
➡️ Public safety: Consistency and reliability at risk
➡️ Workforce capacity: Burnout, injuries, WSIB pressures, and mental‑health impacts
➡️ Intergovernmental partnership: The need for predictable provincial and federal participation
A big thank you to Premier Doug Ford and Minister David Piccini for meeting with our Paramedic Unit and partners and for their openness in working with us to tackle the challenges first responders are facing in Toronto.
We’d also like to thank Marit Stiles and John Fraser as well as their caucus members who met with us on the challenges emergency services personnel face.
Local 416 is committed to building relationships and working with the city and the province to better serve our members, so they can better serve the people of Toronto.
