The Indian salaried class has been methodically stripped of every single inflation hedge available to it, one budget at a time. You tried crypto. They slapped a 30% flat tax on gains, allowed no set-off of losses, and added 1% TDS on transfers. You tried equities. Budget 2024 raised STCG from 15% to 20%, raised LTCG from 10% to 12.5%, increased STT on F&O, and also killed indexation for most other long-term capital gains. You thought fine, I’ll diversify some savings abroad through LRS. They put 20% TCS on remittances above 10 lakhs for investments abroad. You tried Sovereign Gold Bonds, because surely a government-issued, government-backed gold hedge would be the one clean instrument they would not mess with. Then Budget 2026 came along and removed the capital gains exemption for secondary market buyers. And now the final insult. The Prime Minister has publicly asked you to avoid buying physical gold for a year in the “national interest,” because gold imports use foreign exchange. So let me get this straight. A middle class wagie earning in depreciating rupees, watching FD rates hover around 6.5% while real life inflation keeps eating his purchasing power, has now been told: Crypto is taxed like a vice. Equities are more expensive to hold and exit. Foreign diversification gets hit with TCS. SGBs are being wound down and tax-narrowed. Buying physical gold is now unpatriotic. Basically, every single exit from rupee depreciation has been systematically curtailed. You are expected to hold your savings in instruments the government controls, at returns the government sets, for a currency the government is rapidly inflating away. Does this sound like Amrit Kaal to you?

India's average crude oil import is now costing $ 114 to $ 104 vs the average $ 70 in CY2025. This $ 30 to $ 40 drag for 2 months has worsened Current Account deficit by around $ 7 bn already for CY2026 . On a full year basis , CAD could rise by around $ 45 to $ 60 bn . Fiscal Deficit/ Reduced Margins for impacted sectors/ Inflation/Trade Deficit/CAD all are flow throughs of this crude price spike.

Look at this map. Nagpur 45°. Ahmedabad 44°. Prayagraj 43°. Delhi 42°. The entire country is a single dark red mass. This is not a heatwave. This is a country that was told its forests were fine. And this is April. Not May. Not June. The hottest months have not even arrived yet. The past few days have been hell. So I did what I always do when something bothers me. I went looking for answers. What I found was a policy con job that has been running for over two decades. But before I explain what happened, let's clear some definitions. A garden is not a forest. An orchard is not a forest. A plantation is not a forest. A forest is a living system. Soil, water, fungi, insects, birds, mammals, decades of accumulated complexity, specific to its land and climate. It cannot be designed. It cannot be harvested. It regulates water, cools land, shelters hundreds of species. It takes decades to become what it is. You can plant a forest. But it will take decades to become one. In 2001, India's forests were disappearing. The Indian state, led by the Vajpayee government, faced a choice. Protect what remained, or change what the numbers said. It chose the numbers. The Forest Survey of India quietly changed the definition of what a forest means. Any land with 10% tree canopy cover and more than one hectare in area was now a forest. Your mango orchard. A coconut plantation in Tamil Nadu. A tea garden in Assam. Lodhi Garden in Delhi. All forests, on paper. The FSI will tell you that 10% canopy cover follows international norms. The FAO also uses 10% as its threshold. But the FAO's definition comes with a crucial exclusion that India's FSI quietly dropped.  The FAO explicitly states that fruit tree plantations, oil palm plantations, olive orchards, and agroforestry systems are not forests. The World Bank says the same. India adopted the number but discarded the exclusion.  It took the cover of international legitimacy while gutting the standard that gave it meaning. The government will also tell you this was never hidden. That it was publicly stated in every report, disclosed in Parliament. That is technically true. But a disclosure buried in a technical government document is not transparency. It is the appearance of transparency.  I did not know any of this until I went looking. Neither do most Indians whose forests, whose land, whose air this directly concerns. The con is not in what was hidden from experts. It is in what was never explained to the people it was done to. This is not a technicality. This is the con. It was a trick as old as power itself. If you cannot fix the problem, fix the measurement. For ten years after 2001, Congress governed India. Two terms, two environment ministers, including Jairam Ramesh, one of the more serious ones. They saw the numbers. They knew what the numbers meant. They did nothing. Because the lie was convenient. India looked good in international climate negotiations. The fiction of a greening India served everyone in power, so everyone in power kept it. Congress did not create this lie. It simply chose, year after year, to live inside it. The BJP is different. When they returned to power in 2014, they came with something Congress never had. An absolute majority, and no coalition compulsions. They did not merely inherit the lie. They built on it. And in 2023, they legislated it. The Forest Conservation Amendment Act of 2023 removed legal protection from "deemed forests." Forests that existed outside the official definition but were ecologically real.  Forests that Adivasi communities had lived in and depended on for generations. Forests that cooled land, held water, sheltered species. They were not on the right list. Since the amendment, forest destruction on Adivasi land has accelerated.  The people who knew these forests best, who had protected them longest, now watch them being cleared. Legally. CONT++

Madam @MahuaMoitra Before calling Amit Shah a Goonda let me enumerate to you this true incident. Aditya Birla of the Aditya Birla Group in the 1990 was publicly assaulted and humiliated in Kolkata while commuting to his office in his car. He was dragged out of his car between the GPO and RBI building right opposite the Writers’ Building in central Kolkata. Goondas of the leftists communist party beat him up, tore his clothes and stripped him down to his undergarments, and then forced him to walk the remaining distance to his office at 15 India Exchange Place under jeering and ridicule. Aditya Birla after returning to his office, immediately left for Mumbai by the next flight, never to return to Kolkata ever in his lifetime and within 15 days shifted most of his group's business operations out of West Bengal leading to the exodus of most of the Industrial houses and businesses from Bengal. This is called Goondaism and Goonda Raj. When a CM snatches files from the ED and takes them under her custody that is called Goondaism. Don't confuse Goondaism with campaigning. Use your dog sense.

Dear Nida Khan, As an Indian Hindu woman, I lower my head in deep remorse for the suffering you have faced. Such pain cannot be confined to one faith; it resonates within the shared conscience of us all. When a woman is forced to carry fear along with the life she nurtures, it is the world itself that has failed her. In moments like these, silence becomes another kind of wound, unseen, yet deeply felt. The absence of words can weigh more heavily than those spoken in cruelty. For that silence, I carry a lingering sorrow. Yet sorrow must not remain passive. It must stir us into voices that do not waver and into acts of support that do not retreat. Beyond all religious divides lies a common humanity that urges us to stand together. In that spirit, I stand with you saddened, humbled, and determined that no one should ever have to endure such isolation again. I am truly sorry.

An Open Letter to Sister Nida Khan. Dear Sister Nida Khan, We Indian Muslims failed you with our spineless silence. While Giddh media and frenzied extremists viciously hunted you, branding your every breath with your Muslim identity, twisting innocence into guilt, we stood frozen, helpless, and ashamed. You, carrying new life in your womb, faced the savage mental assault alone, your dignity shredded while we whispered excuses from the shadows. Our cowardice was a betrayal that burns. Forgive us, sister, not for our worth, but because your pain demands we finally feel it. You deserved an guard of roaring lions, not this pathetic void of absent brothers and sisters. Enough of this helplessness. Today we roar our apology with raw, bleeding hearts and unquenchable rage, tomorrow we rise aggressive and unbreakable, fierce shields for every Muslim sister targeted, every voice silenced by hate. No more hiding. No more excuses. We stand with you, Nida, or we deserve nothing. With burning shame, awakened fury, and unbreakable resolve, the Indian Muslims who refuse to stay silent any longer. — Mohd Shadab Khan ✍️

The dyanmic four - Trump, Hegseth, Rubio and Kushner - have pulled off the impossible in just 40 days. They got the open Strait of Hormuz locked, exposed the severe limits of conventional big-assets warfare, made the world root for Iran to have nukes a.s.a.p, united the Iranis like never before in facour of regime, exposed the GCC military bases as sitting ducks, also exposed them as poodles of the West with no identity of own, disenchanted all allies worldwide with gusto, punched bigger holes in US national deficits by higher military spending, legitimised killing any country's top leadership, as also the negotiating diplomats teams (something sacrosanct throughout human history). If that is not talent, tell me what exactly is. Pure 24-carat gold talent. I am the best.

His name is Abdul Wahid Shaikh. He was a schoolteacher in Mumbai. On July 11 2006 seven bombs exploded on Mumbai’s suburban trains during evening rush hour. 189 people died. Police arrested 13 men including Wahid. He had nothing to do with it. He spent 9 years in jail waiting for trial. In 2015 a court acquitted him. Zero evidence. He walked out. But 12 other men from the same case were still inside. For the next 10 years Wahid did not rest. He fought for those 12 men from outside the prison. On July 21 2025 the Bombay High Court acquitted all 12. The court said the prosecution utterly failed to prove the case. Confessions were extracted through torture. Witnesses were unreliable. 19 years. For nothing. No compensation was paid to any of them. No police officer was held accountable. No apology was issued by the state. Wahid distributed sweets outside the courtroom that day. That is the kind of man wrongful imprisonment could not break.
