If the chain had never been broken, every future Avatar after Aang would most likely have been able to lightning redirect almost instinctively once in the Avatar state. Because once an Avatar masters a technique, that knowledge becomes part of the collective experience of the Avatar Spirit. Aang learned lightning redirection directly from Iroh, who created it by studying waterbending principles. The next Avatars won’t have access to 1) Aang’s lightning redirection 2) Kyoshi’s glassbending and raw power 3) Roku’s mastery of firebending And thousands of years of battle experience. Now the cycle basically restarts from Korra onward. Future Avatars can still learn lightning redirection normally though .
