@VEEPILF @platinombrero A lot of people are making this a two person race between Newsome and Harris. If Prizker gets in he could make noise. He has the resources without having to raise money to get his name out there.

@justholyshit @cdm813 @mcsquared34 These loans weren’t extended to business as a way to prop up failing ventures. The govt took the unprecedented step to shutter most businesses overnight. Resulting lost revenue this was never to be regained. Did you think employees would simply be paid regardless?!?

@cdm813 @mcsquared34 That explains why extending loans was necessary, that doesn’t explain why forgiving loans was necessary. Unless you’re saying those businesses were already so inefficient that the don’t profit from their operations, in which case the taxpayer propped them up needlessly.

@PeterGr329 Have you met IL's governor? The man spent $35 million in a Republican primary in the last governor's race to boost his preferred opponent.

Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr. negotiated hostage releases, counseled Presidents and fought for Civil Rights - but he never took his focus off of the issues facing his beloved adopted home town of Chicago. I remember him testifying before the Cook County Board to make sure jail inmates had access to phones. And he was truly generous with his time when it came to local media. I enjoyed our various interviews over the years immensely, partially in disbelief that I was talking directly to a living, breathing icon central to modern American history. He was not a perfect human being, and admitted as such. But he never took his eye off the mission of lifting up the least among us and empowering those who felt left behind. May he Rest in Peace, and may Jesse Jr, Jonathan, Santita, Yusef, and his family find comfort in their father's legacy.

This was the first I’ve heard about this unprovoked act of violence against a colleague in the local news media. I’m thinking of the victim and hope they are recovering well and getting the support needed.

A TV reporter was violently attacked in a carjacking attempt in the Loop. It was so violent, officials say, the attacker dislodged her salivary gland. A 7-time felon is charged. cwbchicago.com/2026/02/tv-rep…

@CourtSpinelliTV @paschutz @EricHorngABC7 “Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent.” There is a certain % of the population that has proven they don’t want to live in a civilized society. No amount of therapy or govt handouts will change this guy’s behavior. Lea is simply condemning the next victim with her words

Rep. Krishnamoorthi: $7.25 is a poverty wage but I think a $25 minimum wage could really hurt some of the smaller businesses. I worked to help stop the Kroger and Albertsons merger... but we need to do more on that to keep food affordable for families.

@BenSzalinski Hmm perhaps someone whose job it is to ask politicians questions would then ask Pritzker why his PAC has not donated heavily to Stratton then. If only this type of person existed…

It's worth noting Pritzker hasn't gone all out for Stratton. He's endorsed her and donated, but his big money via a PAC hasn't arrived so far as we know. If Stratton doesn't compete on ads with Raja and boost her name ID, it's hard to say voters rejected Pritzker's record

I know some people don't want to hear this, but Aaron Henry is scheming this one up. #illini with 3.0 sacks already, great coverage and are shutting down Tennessee's passing attack (53 yards on 10 pass attempts and minus-18 yards in sacks).

@mattyglesias Right. But ultimately people don’t anchor to some arbitrary lifestyle standard. The real litmus test ultimately comes down to some version of “is my standard of living meaningfully better/more comfortable than what my parents had / what I fee up with?”

And on 3rd-and-12, #illini allow a TD pass from Preston Stone. Illinois is so awful on 3rd-and-longs, and Illinois got beat over the top there. Miscommunication between Heckel and Miles Scott? Inexcusable. 10 plays, 75 yards, 5:37 Northwestern 10, Illinois 7; 5:50 left 2Q
