The image itself shows that there are more tornadoes around central US than anywhere else, and this is true every year! Big tornado outbreaks never really happen in places like Utah, and history agrees.

@ProNaif @silver_dollr Sorry if I was a bit too rude. I should restate—the radar itself is positioned right under most of the outbreak, so the NWS really wants to keep it online. Since it came offline, that most likely means something bad happened to it.

KHTX radar, the radar that supplies info to N AL and N GA, has sustained a catastrophic failure and will not be operational the rest of the night. If you’re a storm chaser stop chasing because you’re blind now. If you’re in N AL/GA, stay in your safe place for a while.

@ProNaif @silver_dollr It takes at least a room-temperature IQ to realize that the NWS has no reason to shut down a radar in the middle of an outbreak.
