@Glinner @hashjenni I don’t fuck goats , so there’s another difference!

@hashjenni And we don't regularly vote for terrorists who use us as human shields. So that's two differences.

@DesireeAmerica4 I moved to Nashville in November of 2019. Between January of '21 and September of '22, I was arrested for DUI twice. In both cases, I blew a 0.00 & had neg blood tests. One was dropped & the other took me 2 years to fight before it was dropped. Cops do this regularly.

Phoenix PD bodycam just dropped the quiet part out loud.
Officer Annette Hannah, while processing a woman who blew triple zero on the breathalyzer and passed every test:
“They’re gonna kick me off squad if I don’t get a DUI… I can’t just conjure one up. I have tried.”
Her partner: “You can. You can.”
The woman? Brianna Longoria a California nurse in town for her wedding so her sick dad could attend. No alcohol, no drugs, no impairment. Arrested anyway. Charges dropped, but the arrest stays on her record… for now.
She filed a federal lawsuit (2: 25-cv-04931) alleging a de facto DUI quota. Phoenix PD says “we don’t have quotas” and both officers are still on duty. Internal review is “ongoing.”
This is why people don’t trust “just comply.” When the numbers matter more than the facts, innocent people get steamrolled.

My father took us to see Starship Troopers when I was 10. Back then, Dutch cinemas left it to parents to decide whether their kids were ready, my father decided we were.
Verhoeven intended it as satire. I didn't get that memo and it changed the course of my life.
Here's how.
For the uninitiated: the film is based on Robert Heinlein's 1959 novel. It's set in a future where humanity is locked in a savage interstellar war against a race of giant alien bugs, and where the only path to citizenship is military service.
I've only finished reading it recently and it is one of the first time in my life that I say, the movie is actually better than the book.
It could be because I saw the movie first, and the child's mind is highly influential, especially at age 10 when you slowly become a teenager.
The heroes were beautiful and brave, (Denise Richards was my first crush). The villains were literal monsters. The society rewarded sacrifice and punished weakness. Everyone knew their role, everyone pulled their weight, and citizenship was something you earned.
You served, you sacrificed, you belonged. It was that simple. As the meme goes, it activated an ancient blood memory.
It looked like exactly the kind of world history had always promised but never delivered. A meritocracy with teeth and honor made into law.
Years later, in high school, someone made a presentation on its dangerous ideologies and why Verhoeven decided to make a satire linking it to the tyrannical regimes of the 20th century.
She got a A+ for the talk. I understood the rational behind it, but instinctively it didn't make sense for me.
Luckily I can give voice to that instinct now. The movie significantly changed my trajectory in life. I wanted to become part of something bigger, get the girl, be all I can be.
Did I fall for its propaganda? Yes, hook line and sinker, and in hindsight, that was a great thing to happened to me.
Sure we can break down why some (but not all) of the political ideologies the books are flawed (yawn), but that is not the point. The point is that the underlying archetypes and societal models can be tremendously inspiring.
Because at 10 years old, I didn't need a political science lecture. I needed a picture of what a man could be. Someone who showed up to the call of duty, who didn't quit, who earned his place instead of inheriting it.
The noble visions of sacrifice and comradery were literally awe inspiring.
So yes, the propaganda worked on me, but what it produced wasn't blind obedience. It produced ambition. A hunger to be worth something. Johnny Rico was the perfect role model. The movie was a perfect key in to the lock of a 10 year old mind.
Not every child gets handed that image. I got mine from a fellow Dutchman (Verhoeven) making fun of fascism.
I can still feel that evening. The cold air outside the cinema, the three of us spilling onto the pavement, me, my younger brother, my older one, heads still full of bugs and battle and beautiful soldiers dying for each other.
Something had shifted. I didn't have the words for it then. I just knew I wanted more of whatever that was.
My father gave us that. I don't think he knew what he was handing us.

@Matt_Pinner That’s their problem. As will be my erection. As will be my double barrel sawed off 12 gauge loaded with slugs…

"B-B-BUT IT'S JUST PROPERTY! ARE YOU SAYING PROPERTY IS WORTH MORE THAN LIFE?"
I bought my property with my money, which I earned exchanging my time for work. Time I cannot get back. So my property is an extension of my life and if you try to take it you risk losing YOUR life.

@yamanakanobody They want to murder your babies.
They want to mutilate your children.
They want to take away your ability to defend yourself.
They want to tell you which God to worship.
They want to destroy your entire way of life.

@grok how can I change the zeitgeist like title Alex Jones has? Instead of being labeled a conspiracy theorist I believe his official title should be Conspiracy Specialist.

I get it. My wife has a good job working for the state of Tennessee. Her salary is almost double mine. I work 60 to 70 hrs a week so I usually make a little more than her. It’s still not enough. I moved my dying mother in law into n last year so we could take care of her. I moved my sister in the year before to help take care of her. My 25 yr old is in the process of moving back in because he fucked up a good job and ended up 2 months behind on rent. His car broke down 3 weeks ago and I had to spend 1100 to get it fixed. My sisters car threw a rod and I’m getting the money together to make a down payment on a used car for her in a couple of weeks. My engine blew up right before hers did and I was trying to save up 3500 for a new one then my son’s car needed repaired. I’m working as much as I physically can and thank God my company is a good un and will let me work as much overtime as I want. I don’t know if I can keep this up. I’m only 49 but I’m getting more weary every week. I know the Lord only gives us what we can take and He doesn’t make mistakes but I think He’s overestimating me.
English

Welp, I’ve been in a deep mental hole for about 10 days! I spent most of my day thinking about our financial situation.
I tried to get a loan, to pay off our debt and just have one payment each month. I couldn’t get approved, even though my credit score is above 730.
I’ve reached out to a firm to reduce my debt. Although I’m having a problem wrapping my tiny little brain around everything. But, it’s all on me, will have no effect on my wife!
It’s not a decision I’ll ever be proud of but it’s a decision, I feel, I had to make! Times are hard on all us elderly folks right now!
Meanwhile, you just walk your ass into this country and Democrats will give everything at our expense!
Don’t particularly like posting personal stuff but I have no one to talk to except the wife! Sometimes, she has difficulty understanding what I’m saying!
English

I thank the Lord daily that I don’t have to deal with that shit. I’m 49 and have been married since I was 19. My first wife passed in 2013 and I married my second 2 yrs later ( my youngest was 8 when his mama died and I knew I needed to find a good woman because children need a mom and a dad) and I pray I die long before her. I should, I’m 8 yrs older than her.
