Two giants have fallen. I join the nation in mourning the loss of two distinguished UPDF generals; Maj Gen Francis Takirwa and Maj Gen Deus Sande, their leadership, courage, and unwavering dedication to service has left a lasting mark on our nation. Their passing is a profound loss-not only to their families and fellow soldiers, but to all who value honor, duty, and sacrifice Throughout their careers, they exemplified integrity, strength, and steadfast commitment to those under their command. They led with conviction in times of uncertainty and stood as pillars of resilience in moments of challenge Their legacy lives on in the soldiers they mentored, the missions they carried out, and the values they upheld I extend my deepest condolences to the Chief of defence forces, Commander 1 Gen @mkainerugaba , their oved ones and to the entire UPDF fraternity. Tragedy has struck the UPDF family again, and with deep sorrow, we confirm the sudden passing of the UPDF Armored Division Commander (Masaka) Major General Deus Sande early this morning in Mpigi at around 0345 hours. He was on his way to Kampala to attend the funeral service of comrade Major General Francis Takirwa (RIP) at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero. Major General Takirwa died on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Major General Deus Sande developed breathing complications along the way and efforts to resuscitate him at a hospital facility in Mpigi failed. The exact cause of death will be ascertained later. We extend our condolences to his family, relatives, and friends. MHSRIP.
