Canada, please understand 🚨 This is happening IN CANADA RIGHT NOW. THIS WEEK. 🗓️ In the last 12 months, the Carney government has pushed 13 new laws through Parliament. Together they decide: ✨ what you're allowed to say 👀 what's being watched 📱 what can be shut off 🗣️ who gets to be heard Most Canadians have NO IDEA. Let me walk you through it. 👇 — 📜 Bill C-9 — the "hate" law Until this year, you couldn't be charged with hate speech for quoting the Bible, the Quran, or the Torah in good faith. That protection? Gone. The House voted to delete it. 186 to 137. C-9 also creates a brand new offence: if a crime is deemed "motivated by hatred," the punishment goes UP — in some cases all the way to life in prison, depending on the underlying crime. ⚠️ Queen's Law Professor Bruce Pardy: it "opens the way for potential politically motivated prosecutions." Muslim, Catholic, Jewish, and civil liberties groups all said no. Government passed it anyway. Now at the Senate. Not law yet. — 📜 Bill C-25 — the election speech law Saying something "false or misleading" about voting? Used to only be a crime during the 36 days of an election. Now? It's a crime 365 days a year. 🗓️ And who decides what counts as "false"? A Commissioner. Appointed by the same government running in the election. 👀 Fines jumped 16 to 20 times higher. — 📜 Online Harms 2.0 Carney said in Tokyo, March 7: a social media ban for kids is "on the table." The same expert team that designed the last version (C-63) is back at the table. That earlier C-63 framework included: • 24-hour takedowns of your posts • House arrest for things you might do in the future 🏠 Not a typo. Future behaviour. — 📜 Bill C-22 — phone tracking The Minister can order your phone company to keep records on every Canadian for a full year. You don't have to be a suspect. You don't have to do anything. The Canadian Constitution Foundation called it "a tracking device in every Canadian's pocket." 📱 The government's own Secretary of State told Parliament C-22 is just "a first step." — 📜 Bill C-8 — the kill switch This one's the wild card. ⚡ Passed the House. Sitting at the Senate. It lets the Minister of Industry — ONE PERSON — order your phone company to cut off your service. By name. Just yours. ❌ No warrant ❌ No judge ❌ No notice ❌ No trial If the phone company doesn't comply: $15 MILLION fine. Per day. The Conservatives tried 3 times to add a rule that a judge has to approve it first. The Speaker said no to all 3. — 📜 Bill S-209 — platform blocking Marketed as protecting kids online. But the bill's own sponsor said on the record: "the government could decide to include social media like X." Court-ordered blocking of entire platforms is written into the bill. 🚫 — Here's the part nobody on TV is saying: The NDP voted against C-9. 🟠 The Conservatives proposed the C-8 amendments. 🔵 Six provinces filed against Ottawa at the Supreme Court. 🏛️ This isn't liberals vs conservatives. It's architecture. 🧱 And most Canadians have never heard a single bill number on this list. — Full thread with every Parliament link → x.com/TheCarneyFiles… ARE YOU READY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? 👇 Let me know.
