Very excited to share a preprint of an introduction and validation of the Assessment of Parent and Child Adversity (APCA), which simultaneously assesses parent and child exposure to adversity during different life stages. @K_L_Humphreys osf.io/8p72q

NEW FINDING: Family placements following severe deprivation lead to long-term gains in IQ. This study documents early adult outcomes from the Bucharest Early Intervention Project (BEIP), a randomized control trial of foster care (pnas.org/doi/epdf/10.10…), in @PNASnews.🧵

@JessAStern Something I’ve noticed since switching to industry is that I don’t get a single email or slack message on the weekend. 🙌

While I’m rage crying…this is a fantastic resource. There are so many people tirelessly and lovingly working to get women their healthcare. We’re not alone. plancpills.org

I'd also like to whisper out that I got some DIScouragement to pursue this project from less amazing mentors--likely because it isn't the kind of project that will end up in the flashiest journal. My advice if you're there -- keep your head down and quietly do what you want 💞

Though it's not my flashiest paper from grad school, I'm most proud of this effort and I hope it's useful for other researchers and clinicians. Happy to chat if you are interested in hearing more about the APCA. Many many thanks to @K_L_Humphreys for endless encouragement!

@AndreaF_Fields @childemotionlab If I want to know how adversity is associated with psychopathology in order to inform public health policy, I’d likely want that estimate based on objective exposure so that I can make predictions based on knowledge of rates of child maltreatment, poverty, etc.

@AndreaF_Fields @childemotionlab I think the measure depends on what question you’re asking and the population you want to learn about. Clearly, infants and young children can’t report their perceived experience but we want to measure their exposure.

I'm thrilled to see this study published today in @NatureComms illustrating the powerful effect of shifting parents' beliefs about brain development. I hope it can also help shift society's beliefs about the urgent need to do more to support parents ... nature.com/articles/s4146…
