Virgil van Dijk on his first conversation with Jürgen Klopp before joining Liverpool from Southampton: 🗣️ “Before I signed for Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp called me and completely changed my vision. He didn’t speak to me like a manager trying to convince a player to join… he spoke to me like a man preparing someone for war. He told me: ‘Virgil, Liverpool is sleeping right now, but we are going to wake this giant up again. I need leaders. I need monsters who are not afraid of pressure.’ That hit me hard. Then he started talking about Anfield, the fans, the atmosphere on European nights. He said: ‘The moment you walk out at Anfield under the lights, your life will change forever.’ I already felt goosebumps before even wearing the shirt. Klopp didn’t promise me easy success or trophies. He promised intensity, sacrifice, pain, hard work, and the chance to become part of Liverpool history. That honesty made me trust him instantly. The moment I arrived, I understood everything he meant. The pressure was huge, but the love from the fans was even bigger. Looking back now, joining Liverpool wasn’t just a transfer… it was the decision that changed my entire career.”

🚨 Andy Robertson on this season: “We are not at the 2017 stage, we are at the transition stage. We won the league last year. The environment was very similar. We had to go at 100 per cent in every single game and the messages were very clear from the manager, the backroom staff and from everyone in the building. “Now this year hasn’t worked out for a variety of reasons. We can’t hide away from it, and it is not an excuse, but what we went through in the summer no team will ever go through. No member of staff will go through. I hope they never go through it because the devastation we went through… football didn’t matter. “We didn’t care about football for weeks. None of us wanted to train. You were getting treatment off physios and physios didn’t want to treat you. That is the reality of it. As footballers we then, of course, have a duty — we have to move on, we have to keep going and we managed that. We started the season fairly well although it was still an emotional time for us. “The Bournemouth game [on the opening day of the season] was ridiculously emotional with all of Jots’s family being there. I think in the 20th minute you saw a real dip in performance after that because of the emotional impact it had on all of us… “We have been too easy to play against. There is no hiding away from that. But for the future of Liverpool, I believe they have more than enough in that changing room to go and achieve more things again.”

Maybe you’re over Diogo Jota’s death, but Andy Robertson isn’t. Maybe you think disruption to pre-season physical prep is irrelevant, but Andy Robertson doesn’t. Maybe you’ve forgotten that these lads are human beings, but Andy Robertson hasn’t. Perspective. #YNWA

I hate the football philosophy battle that’s always been at the heart of this modern era of Liverpool Football Club. In modern football you can’t just be one or the other style. You have to be the best at everything. PSG and Arsenal are both physical and intense + great on the ball. The idea that it was wrong for Liverpool to rebalance post-Klopp and try to do better with the ball is wrong. And that’s why Liverpool won the League last year. Slot reduced the intensity, increased the control and we managed injuries better, broke down teams more reliably and managed the season from the beginning so well that all our competition fell away and we secured the title by April.

I am absolutely not here for the revisionism over Klopp’s era of football and his coaching style. We were all here for the years where we kept coming up against the limitations of Klopp’s philosophy: 1) Great in matches with big spaces but poor when teams didn’t give us space in behind. Season after season we struggled against low blocks. Klopp and Ljinders couldn’t coach our midfield to draw apart teams with the ball to make space for high quality chances when we faced low blocks. So we signed players like Keïta and Thiago to do that with their natural talent but… 2) High intensity meant lots of injuries to players like Keïta and Thiago at the worst moments so we went back to problem (1). All our creativity was basically from Trent. It wasn’t a brand of football that was conducive to consistent success. We had great streaks of huge success, seasons where we almost won quadruples but ultimately we failed in the final stages of the seasons because of the intensity and not being able to break down teams in the biggest stages. We had success but we needed to evolve the squad to be able to play with multiple weapons, not just hard running, intensity and relying on Trent and Salah’s individual brilliance.

Couldn’t agree more. Pep and arteta pinned every manager down and forced them to copy their tactics, to make football samey and boring 😂😂😂. Absolutely disgraceful what those 2 managers have forex others to do
Mikey Mike@MikeyHotspurs

THE DEATH OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE Three simple and obvious things have contributed to the decline of the English football as we know it What used to be the most entertaining league in the world is now an absolute bore and this is why 1) PEP GUARDIOLA • His robotic style of football is one of the biggest contributing factors. The keeper passing it short all the time has been copied by the entire league. Players no longer taking long shots or shall I say scared to shoot has also been mimicked by all. Wingers running down the wing only to turn each and pass the ball backwards every time is really frustrating. The sooner he leaves the league the better 2) MIKEL ARTETA • Educated in the “school of Pep” has taken Guardiola’s robotic football state and taken it to another level. Every time his team have a set piece it results in lots of time being wasted and an absolute free for all in the box. It’s got the point where I’m expecting Hulk Hogans music to hit. The constant cheating and diving to time waste is also a major concern. Now other teams are doing the same resulting in a snooze fest. The sooner he’s gone the better 3) VAR • Now this one has taken the heart and soul out the game. Yes it leads to the correct decision most times, but it has taken the “anything can happen” factor out the game. A goal goes in and nobody even knows whether to celebrate it or not. Decisions taking to long to be made and incompetent officials who clearly don’t know what the game has killed the enjoyment for all the fans Now I can’t see VAR being eradicated from the game but I’m truly hoping PEP & and his former protege MIKEL are gone in the next 2 years max SO WE CAN GO BACK TO ENJOYING WATCHING FOOTBALL AGAIN

🗣️ Thierry Henry: “People remember me for my goals, for the elegance with which I played, but behind that image there were insecurities. When I arrived in the Premier League, many doubted me, they told me I was just a fast winger without goals. I even came to believe it myself, and every match was a battle against that inner voice that kept telling me I wasn’t enough. With hard work, patience, and confidence, I transformed myself into a goal scorer, but I never forgot those days of doubt. That’s why every goal I scored was more than just a number: it was proof that faith in oneself can change a career.”

It was my birthday last week, and I was sitting in the breakroom at work when a younger coworker asked what my partner had gotten me. She already had her phone out, completely ready to see a picture of a designer bag, a massive $500 floral arrangement, or a viral-worthy dinner receipt. I told her the truth: He spent his entire weekend covered in grease, replacing the alternator and brake pads on my car, and then he quietly paid off the remaining balance of my student loan that had been giving me rolling panic attacks for six months. She gave me this deeply tragic, pitying look. “Oh. Well, that’s practical, I guess,” she said. “But you deserve to be spoiled. You know, the princess treatment. A man who really loves you wants to show you off, not just do chores. That's kind of the bare minimum.” I just stared at her. What she didn’t see was that for the last half of the year, I had been losing sleep, my hair was thinning from financial stress, and I was terrified to drive my car on the highway. My partner took his only two days off from his own grueling job, completely wrecked his hands under my hood, and drained his own savings, just to hand me back my peace of mind. The internet has completely rotted our definition of romance. We have been brainwashed to believe that if a man isn't performing his love for an audience, buying things that look highly aesthetic on a TikTok reel, then he isn't doing enough. We are out here casually calling a man's literal blood, sweat, and absolute financial sacrifice "the bare minimum" just because it doesn't come in a shiny box with a ribbon.
