A new fiscal-monetary framework to renew Britain. This by Louise Haigh in @RenewalJournal pairs well with Chartbook 449 on the silence around the Bank of England: Voldemort on Threadneedle St. renewal.org.uk/articles/a-new…

An exciting day for Greece! It was my honor to participate in the ribbon cutting for a brand new McDonald’s at The Mall in Athens, the most technologically advanced McDonald’s in all of Europe! American businesses investing here create jobs and bring American culture – and delicious food – to the Greek people.

So you're funding Hegseth the failed TV host at rates unheard of since 2007, so he can cosplay as Secretary of War in our backyard in Hormuz? You know what's crazier than $39 trillion in debt? Paying a pre-GFC premium to fund a LARP and all you'll get is a brand new GFC.

Rejoining the Customs Union and/or Single Market If Starmer had uttered those words today, he'd be in a slightly better place with his party, the public, the Europeans and the markets Instead he's in an inferior position with all of them

It was a transfer that shook the footballing world: England captain #KevinKeegan leaves European Champions Liverpool FC for Hamburg SV. It was 1977. And the move set a then record transfer fee. However, Keegan and #LiverpoolFC continued to be successful. Kevin became a club icon for a second time, helping HSV win the 1978–79 Bundesliga title, and reached the 1980 European Cup final. He also won the Ballon d'Or twice in 1978 and 1979. Still the only English player to do so. Fast forward to almost 50 years later, and "Mighty Mouse" is now the subject of a special exhibition celebrating the links between Liverpool City Region and Hamburg. Entitled Harbour Cities: Global Stages, the free exhibition can be viewed in Hamburg City Hall until May 25th. It covers a number of themes to showcase the similarities of the two historic maritime giants, and how their ports influenced their peoples, traditions, academia and culture from music to sport. It also features a special section on #TheBeatles with rare photographs and letters, written by the original five members whilst in Hamburg from 1960-1962, exploring the massive impact the German city had on the fledging band. Created to celebrate the City Region’s role as the official partner of Hamburg’s annual port festival – Hafengeburtstag - it is hoped the exhibition will also go on display in Liverpool in the summer. The exhibition opened as a Liverpool City Region business and culture delegation heads to Hamburg to strengthen economic ties with the Hanseatic city. A special exhibition featuring a rare set of Beatles photographs and letters written by the band’s five original members whilst in Hamburg, is set to go on display in the German city this week. It comes as a Liverpool City Region business and culture delegation heads to Hamburg to strengthen economic ties. The exhibition has been created to celebrate Liverpool City Region’s role as the official partner of Hamburg’s annual port festival – Hafengebustag - and showcases letters revealing the thoughts of John, Paul and George at this hugely influential stage in their career, along with Stuart and original drummer Pete Best. 👉 ow.ly/ww2A50YVu7e

@StewartWood As Klingbeil’s adviser Jens Suedekum told me in October, “The logical next step would be to start with a joint German-French initiative - basically to make this German package a European package.”

The idea of removing defence spending from the scope of fiscal rules is gaining traction. Andy Burnham mentioned it yesterday (“There’s certainly a case, when we look at the pressure on defence spending, to consider that exceptionally outside of the rules”). What might this mean?

@StewartWood Agree that Germany is clearly the inspiration, with UK participation in some form of defence-specific joint issuance on the horizon.

I had a highly constructive and productive meeting with the President of the European Commission. We agreed that, as Prime Minister of Hungary, I will return to Brussels in the week of 25 May to conclude the political agreement necessary for Hungary and the Hungarian people to receive, as soon as possible, the EU funds they are entitled to — amounting to several thousand billion forints. I would like to reassure everyone that the European Union is not imposing any conditions that would be contrary to Hungary’s national interests. In one sentence: EU funds will soon start arriving in Hungary, enabling us to kick-start the Hungarian economy and to deliver what is needed for a functioning and humane country.
