@ThomasRoyGarner @lukeeboy More precisely, all income is subject to tax. The increase in wealth from selling or exchanging cryptos is considered income. It was like this before Bitcoin began, so there is nothing unfair about it.

If someone gave you some cryptocurrencies, it would be a gift & not taxed as income. People can give you all the coins in the world as gifts, but it’s not taxable to you. It is an exchange & a taxable event to them. If it’s a charitable gift, they would report it as a charity.
