This was definitely the highlight of my day as well. We can all learn from and grow together. ✨ Please me know if any other design systems teams want to meetup virtually with our systems team @Atlassian too! #designsystems #community

@Xfinity right when I finished upgrading my internet, my service goes down. No support and 363rd in line... This is one way to say "thank you paying customer"

Another great episode about important topics (good refactoring and testing practices) but @beccaliz reminds us that we're writing code for humans: our fellow developers. Let's not forget that: when we write code, people read it. That should drive how we do things.

Listen to my chat with @beccaliz on refactoring React components! We talk about code as a user interface and how to make it more livable, human-friendly, and ready for change... #ReactJS #speaking #refactoring #10xengineer @TestingLib reactpodcast.com/82

Just finished "The War for Kindness: Building Empathy in a Fractured World" by @zakijam. I feel like it should be required reading before engaging on Twitter.

@jxnblk Thanks for sharing @jxnblk! Powerful thoughts here. Constraint-driven creativity and building for extensibility are two critical disciplines that design system teams (devs and designers) need to embrace to be successful in the long-term.

Check out Contrast Swatch: a simple image microservice for showing color contrast ratio between two colors. Use it in markdown, documentation, GitHub comments, or wherever. github.com/jxnblk/contras…

@AustinTByrd Just curious, what things go into an MVDS? When is it viable?

Tips for your design system: 1. Don't rush. Do vision work. Decide on your principles. 2. Start with your design foundations (color, type ramp, etc) 3. Minimum Viable Design System. 4. Set up feedback mechanisms. 5. Documentation is your propaganda; make it sexy.

@EmmaWedekind Right. A design system, well-implemented, is meant to reduce tech debt, not increase it. Sufficient planning and self-control will take that a long way.

The hardest part about building a design system is sufficient planning and some self control. It’s so easy to just jump in to the exciting part and code right away. But careful planning and a prioritized backlog will be a catalyst for success 💻

@sophiebits This sounds exactly like our design operations team but that's more of a function of what they do. Other teams have structures like this too and they call them product "pods" which seems like a fancy term for cross-functional teams in general.

anyone have a good name for the combined roles of * software engineering * product design * UX research * product management? “eng” sounds like just coders; “product” can sound like PM only (and excludes infra work). “tech”? something else?

@jaredpalmer what are some of the best resources for learning how to write TypeScript types for third-party modules? I've found the landscape to be pretty lacking

Nearly spit out my snacks when I heard the comment about running "Restart TS Server" 17 times a day. I think this is the best tip I give any @typescriptlang dev using @code CMD+SHIFT+P to open the command palette and start typing "restart"

"It's going to be slower... for Day 1. But on Day 30 and Day 500 it is so much faster to be writing on TypeScript." @jaredpalmer Truth. This and so many other nuggets on the @ReactPodcast. Another nice one @chantastic
