The only way for officials to stay out of the way is to call the obvious ones 100% of the time - when they aren’t doing that, they’re by default “managing the game”. The trip was egregious, the too many men was egregious, and both teams would rather see them called.

@IslesCave Habs fan here. When he's on. He's on. He's clearly injured, but yes, I agree, he can be too passive at times. Luckily we have a strong D core and he doesn't have to be the guy. Complements our core well, but not a guy you build around, fully agree.

One takeaway from that epic Tampa-Montreal series is Brandon Hagel is much further up the list of best players in the world than he’s given credit for. He’s also one of the best leaders in the sport, and yet doesn’t even wear a letter in a room of very established ones.
