Waqar, who is gathering at home with friends and supporters to watch the results come in, said she is “positive about whatever the result will be.”

“I didn’t have a single bad experience,” Waqar said. “Everyone was very respectful. I was so happy about the way the people responded.”

When reached by phone, Ward 15 council candidate Sumaira Waqar said she is very happy about how her campaign went, adding she has visited almost 4,000 houses all by herself.

Jawed said the biggest issues she heard on the campaign was the exponential growth of the community, lack of infrastructure and transit connectivity. She said area rating and community safety were also key issues.

"I'm very positive, very excited," Jawed said.

Ward 15 candidate Zobia Jawed, reached by phone, said she she is "very excited." She said this is "a change election" and she was able to visit more than 5,000 doorsteps.

Pera said the biggest issue he heard during the campaign was the need for safer streets. "Safer streets and getting people to slow down," he said.

Reached by phone, Ward 15 candidate Chris Pera said while it’s hard to gauge support without an official poll, he’s made himself available wherever he could. “I think it went pretty well,” he said of the campaign. “I’m just waiting to see how the results come back.’

In terms of issues during the campaign, McMeekin said area rating, a new school in east Waterdown, community safety and heritage protections were some of the top ones he heard

He said he spent the day canvassing in the Carlisle area with former Flamborough councillor Robert Pasuta, as well hanging door knockers.

McMeekin said he is "optimistic," but said he never anticipates an election result and "always runs like he is in last place."
