@DannyDeraney @BowTiedKong One of my favorite “um actuallys” is that France offered the land but the United States rejected it and instead requested “perpetual use rights”. It is French soil managed by the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC). We didn’t want the headache of a border crossing.

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend

I want to get back to regularly posting about military jargon on here again… What do you all want to see? History? Definitions? Weird military words? More on documents and publications? Let me know!

@RealRiddimHours Yeah we’ve had a few winners lately. All of them report that it’s a waking nightmare. The Q is no better and I’ve run into a lot of guys that for whatever reason cannot make it through the Q. At some point you have to wonder if they even know what they’re selecting for.

@macaflaka I mean I don’t doubt it at all. My instincts are all vibes based I’m a civilian but I can only imagine it’s gotten significantly more nuts as SOF in general has become so sexy in general and gotten so many accomplishments during / post Vietnam in particular.

Do modern day SOF candidates who wash out ever get crazy resentment for how much “easier” the pipelines used to be? I feel like it would be hard not to feel that way

Thanks for talking about this, it’s something our junior leaders have not been confronted with for the most part. I discuss moral injury with my junior leaders and how those junior leaders are in a unique position to do grave damage to their Soldiers. They must be very careful with the power and authority granted to them. I tell my subordinates that if they do not feel that they have enough time, information, or authority to make a moral decision, that is an immediate information requirement to their chain.

SGM Mike Vining @ Blasting Through Official
Here’s another scenario that could lead to moral injury: During a deployment, a service member participates in a raid where enemy fighters are killed, but in the chaos, the unit also destroys property and humiliates local civilians in ways that feel degrading (e.g., aggressive searches or verbal abuse driven by fear and adrenaline). Upon returning home, the veteran avoids family gatherings because he feels dirty" or unworthy of love. He thinks, "I'm not the hero people think I am—I'm a monster who terrorized people who didn't deserve it." Shame manifests as a deep sense of personal defectiveness, leading to social withdrawal and the hiding of service history. Your thoughts on this hypothetical? Don’t feel obligated to share anything you don’t want to share.

@IronLiberty76 @BlastingThrough Those warriors were acting entirely within their moral structure. They were pagans and had a moral structure that you and I as post-Christian humans simply cannot understand. Read pre-Christian literature to really get a feel for how those warriors saw their actions.

@BlastingThrough Guilt signals a functioning conscience but why don't we read about Mongol warriors,Viking berserkers, Roman legionaries, Zulu impis, or samurai questioning their morality.

@KTB_500 G-army is one of the worst crimes ever perpetrated on the American warfighter. That and the ridiculous strict liability for property that we hold, but never find a way to modernize so that it’s easy. Blows my mind that change of command inventories take 3 weeks

🇺🇸Cut the Red Tape or Cut Our Throats: Fix GCSS-Army’s Zero-Dollar Debacle🇺🇲 This was me yesterday in our Maintenance meeting. Listen up, Warriors—let's talk about the soul-crushing bureaucracy baked into the Army's GCSS-Army system. We're not discussing high-stakes ops or classified intel; we're talking a damn **hexagonal self-locking nut**—a zero-dollar recoverable item that costs pennies and shouldn't even register on the radar. But oh no, enter the **ORIL (Overage Reparable Item List)** process, that endless black hole of red tape designed by desk jockeys who've never humped a ruck or turned a wrench under fire. Picture this: A maintenance leader—could be a battle-hardened NCO with years in the fight—sits down to clear this "overage." First, navigate a labyrinth of screens that load slower than a convoy in mud season. Keystroke after keystroke, entering data that's already in the system, cross-referencing forms that demand signatures from ghosts in the chain of command. Then the paperwork avalanche: FLIPLs, memos, justifications for why this nut exists in excess. Hours bleed away—two, three, sometimes half a day—on something that adds zero value to readiness. Multiply that by every unit across the force, every single overage item clogging the pipeline: we're talking thousands of man-hours vaporized annually, resources that could be spent training, fixing real gear, or prepping for the next fight. This isn't just inefficiency; it's a betrayal of the mission. While our Soldiers grind through peer threats and contested logistics, we're handcuffed by a system that treats a nut like a nuke. It drains morale, burns out leaders, and wastes taxpayer dollars on pixel-pushing instead of power projection. We've streamlined awards for heroes like CW5 Slover—cutting bureaucracy to honor valor swiftly—why can't we do the same here? Leadership, hear this: Time to gut this mess, automate the nonsense, and let maintainers maintain. Our force deserves better. Fix it now, or we're just spinning wheels in the mud. 🫡🇺🇸 #ArmyLogistics #GCSSArmy #MilitaryBureaucracy #StreamlineTheFight

In your opinion, what is the ONE thing that has saved the most lives in the military? Could be a piece of gear, equipment, medicine, policy, tactic, or even a training practice.

Exactly. Classic BOLC/CCC floor map rehearsal—perfectly scripted, everyone in one room, zero comms discipline. That's the exact culture the original post is calling out. In LSCO it turns into a targeting packet on day one. Time to train leaders who can execute with intent when the plan dies and higher is silent.

The Combined Arms Rehearsal theater is dead. If you’re still building one in 2025, you’re not training for LSCO—you’re planning your own funeral. Picture it: 300 leaders in a hangar, 47 projectors, 12 hours of rock-drill perfection, brigade commander walking the miniature terrain like a god scripting every bound. Meanwhile the enemy’s recon-strike complex just watched the whole thing from orbit: thermal bloom of the hangar, 300 cell phones pinging the same tower, every vehicle parked in neat rows outside for the satellite pass. Day-1 of war: that rehearsal site is the first precision grid removed from the map. Day-2: every CP you just rehearsed in place is gone. Day-3: the brigade commander is either underground or dead, and nobody has comms because we never trained without them. GWOT taught us that perfect synchronization wins. LSCO teaches us that perfect synchronization is a targeting signature. Your 96-hour Exchecl and sync mat -perfect scheme dies in the first 30 minutes when: - Every emitter is a beacon - Every static node is a target - Every rehearsal of record becomes the enemy’s pre-planned fire plan Mission Command isn’t a nice-to-have. It is the only thing that survives when the sky is full of drones and the brigade commander’s voice is a memory. Yet we still measure readiness by how pretty the rehearsal looks, not by how violently a company can attack when higher is burning and the net is black. Stop building theaters. Start building leaders who can fight with a map, a compass, and two sentences of intent. Because in LSCO the rehearsal isn’t in a hangar. It’s the enemy dropping 40 loitering munitions on the exact grid you spent three days perfecting. Perfection is the enemy of survival. Control is the fast lane to the grave. Kill the GWOT rehearsal culture or it kills you. #RehearsalTheaterIsCoffinNail #LSCO #MissionCommandOrExtinction #CPTargetingEndsControl

@AnechoicMedia_ I did the math and past O-5/20 years of service it makes basically 0 financial sense to remain in the military. Everyone still in after that point is in it for love of the game.

A consequence of this I learned of is if you are successful in your military career and get promoted to a high rank, you hit a pay cap that leaves you around Google L3 pay. Since this doesn't pay for an executive lifestyle, especially one that requires maintaining a second residence and frequent travel, you're basically expected to be independently wealthy to continue serving in leadership, while the rise-through-the-ranks middle class service members are forced out.

Fun fact: no federal employee can have a salary higher than the president $400,000. This means that the football coaches for West Point and the Naval Academy are not actually government employees, and some VA orthopedic surgeons are technically contractors.

So the umpire at a kid’s baseball game, and who btw is a senior in high school, is more mature than a coach who throws a fit and decides to forfeit a game because he can’t be adult enough!! What exactly does this “coach” think he is teaching kids??? 💁🏻‍♀️
