@DrMichaelBonner I'm not expert on their motivations, most new Labour MP's are probably just like on the issues, if he wasn't so unpopular and damaging their prospects I doubt they'd care. But Keir, he's just a uniquely odd person. I always found this helpful in explaining him.

I can easily understand disliking Sir Keir and not wanting him to be PM. But what are the Labour parliamentary party's reasons for wanting him out?

You can see the tension between direct democracy and representative democracy. The people voted to leave the EU. That should be respected. Instead, politicians are fighting it. If necessary, they should hold another referendum.

Keir Starmer: At the next EU summit, I will set a new direction for Britain. The last government was defined by breaking our relationship with Europe. This Labour government will be defined by rebuilding our relationship with Europe — by putting Britain at the heart of Europe.

@KitKlarenberg @mariannaspring Didn't Ros Atkins get roped in for a few very successful fact check pieces? Remember one piece being allright. People kind of like Ros, not so much Mariana.

@mariannaspring Do read the full report, it's absolutely devastating. The BBC Verify blog was launched with much funfare and tons of money behind it to promote the personal activities of Marianna Spring (who was already basically the story anyway). No one gave a shit... thetimes.com/uk/media/artic…

A key tenet of the Millennial experience was downloading a cracked copy of Ableton off Pirate Bay because that’s what Mike Skinner did, but there were no YouTube tutorials so you just sort of made a drum loop and then got bored

Japanese police caught two Sri Lankans with a car full of copper roofing ripped from temples and shrines. They took advantage of the post earthquake situation in the Noto peninsula. $2,500 worth of copper but probably 10x that to repair the damage

@Bennieeexyz Lovely story. Can I ask, how did he come to know about the shortage? Reminds me of similiar stories in Ireland. Poverty, or a lack of something in the house tends to have a way of making itself known.

My uncle lived in Shanghai in the 80s when everything was still rationed. Rice, cooking oil, fabric…..you got a coupon book and that was your life. One winter the family ran out of coal coupons early. It was genuinely cold and my uncle was maybe 10. His mom was quietly stressed, trying to figure out what to do without making it a big deal for the kids. Their neighbor knocked on the door one evening. An older man, they barely knew him, exchanged greetings in the hallway type of relationship. He handed over half his remaining coal coupons and said "we're warm enough" and that was it. My uncle's mom tried to refuse. He wouldn't take them back. Said "children shouldn't be cold" and left before she could argue more. They didn't even know his full name. Called him "the man in 4B" for years. When rationing ended and things loosened up, my uncle's family kept looking for ways to repay him. Brought food over, offered things. He always waved it off. Said he didn't remember giving the coupons. Said it like he genuinely meant it, not like he was being modest. He did the same thing for other neighbors every bad winter until he died. Just quietly moved through hard times handing things to people and then pretending he hadn't. At his funeral half the building showed up. He had no family. Everyone had assumed it would be a small thing. It wasn't small at all. My uncle is in his 50s now and keeps extra of everything in his house. Rice, medicine, batteries. Way more than he needs. Says he learned it from 4B. Doesn't explain further than that.

Personally, I've been seeing more Community Notes lately. Am I in a bubble? Are the remaining contributors more productive than before? What's everyone else seeing? Source: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

Did Grok kill Community Notes? It sure seems like it! After it became possible to ask Grok questions on the timeline, new Community Notes sign-ups plummeted.

There’s so much winning on the right, there’s so much winning, that if you want to know what’s actually going on you are better off going to ‘The New York Times’ or Bluesky and taking in their cries and lamentations than you are listening to blackpill rightwingers on Twitter who trade in discouragement, drama, and low IQ conspiratorial slop.
