@TrainLikeGame Inner game of golf was brilliant too. Took 10 shots off my golf - allows you to get out of the way of yourself !

Starting with “The Typical Tennis Lesson” — the pro fires off instructions non-stop: “Keep your wrist firm, rotate your shoulders, step into the ball, follow through higher, bend your knees more…” Student’s head explodes trying to fix 6 things at once. Result? Paralysis by analysis. Gallwey realized: too much teaching often backfires. Less instruction, more trust in the body = faster improvement.

Just started “The Inner Game of Tennis” by W. Timothy Gallwey 📖Everyone talks about the physical game, but this book is about the real battle — the one inside your head. Self-1 vs Self-2, quieting the inner critic, and playing from focus instead of force. Running thread as I read. Who else has read it? #InnerGame #Tennis #MentalGame #SelfImprovement

🚨 INSIDE THE 3rd CIRCLE Episode 3: Manchester City's Attacking Dissonance In my analysis of the Manchester Derby, I take a look at why Guardiola's attacking organisation feels like it's stuck between two approaches. Full video in the link below...👇

The goal isn't to never feel frustrated or disappointed. That's not human. The goal is to shorten the recovery time. Feel it. Acknowledge it. Then get back to a place where you can perform. That's the skill. And it can be trained.

One of the hardest and best skills to develop: How to reset quickly. When things go wrong, do you let it linger, ruminate on it, and spiral? Or are you able to let go and focus on the next action.

Every coach has felt it, the chaos, the noise, the urge to fix everything. We think control means progress. But often, it blocks learning. The game already gives them feedback, they don’t always need yours. 🎯 The moment you stop trying to control every player is the moment you start coaching them. Coaching isn’t about perfection; it’s about permission, permission for them to grow. What if the best version of your team comes from silence, not shouting? 🔁 Share this if you’ve learned to let go to lead better. 📸: @ToniKroos

@kestrelpsych Co-creation of activities with players to come up with tasks that they have helped design to improve their decision making. Might help with their intentionality.

Question for soccer coaches. How do you address slow decision making? I am doing opposed activities and see players make slow decisions that lose possession. They are just not making adjustments when what they do doesn’t work over and over again!

@CCD_Essex By setting up the pitches the games will allow the kids to learn different elements of the game. Let them play and see what happens.

There's a lot that could be written however, I would prefer coaches to appreciate at what stage the players are at, at the moment and give the appropriate help and support relevant their to age and ability. Players will improve by playing in these. I hope that makes sense?

@CCD_Essex Great post Gary, is there any write ups to go with exercises?

@kestrelpsych Do you think he learnt to score like that by lining up in a queue to take his turn with 15 other boys when they did shooting practice!!?

@TheSessionC Been doing a form of futsal for 4 years with my GR boys now u17 and their skill levels and techniques development now are off the scale compared to when they started. We just allow them to play for an hour. Closest thing to street soccer in the modern age for my group.

It is a great game in its own right and as such needs investment and a National commitment to support its growth. Its also great for development. When are we going to fully embrace this game?

Why does relationism resonate with Brazilian culture so much? Because from a young age they play not from coaching exposure but shared intention of possibilities. Fustal could be a catalyst in Europe for encouraging more player led actions if we made it accessible at youth level
