I'm so sick of dealing with token usage. Can I just buy an NVIDIA rack and put it in my garage? I am curious what it would cost to run something like kimi full strength. Obviously a lot, but still curious.

as many of you know I bought mystery flight hardware from the DoD, and @Ascii211 and I tore it apart to find out we had hit the jackpot. the teardown is coming to an end as we remove the MWIR to use in other projects (stay tuned), but I wanted to capture the startup sequence one more time.

Ok, I’m not going to be able to buy and restore this due to logistics so I figured I’d throw it up on Twitter. Long story short, I found the @NASA Convoy Command Vehicle for the Space Shuttle program up for auction, with almost zero indication of what it is (link at end of 🧵)

I worked on the Shuttle Launch and Landing Team at KSC for 23 years, and was a landing team member at EAFB for many missions. As an orbiter move director, I walked behind that RV on the tow back, and she's real!

@macjshiggins @mattparlmer For cost I need to dig up some case studies, it’s hard to find good stories since this is all internal R&D spend. But I’m generally pretty EMH-pilled for Asian manufacturing … and it being all done by humans is a good sign that learning is needed for bots to be human-competitive

Robotics of this type is a solved problem to the degree that undergrads will be putting stuff that beats anything they’ve demo’d here up on HuggingFace by the end of the year

@luke_metro @mattparlmer Appreciate the reply. I’m unfamiliar with this high cost of precision jigs. Do you have examples? Anything I’ve done with traditional programming on arms is pretty straightforward. These types of tasks can be programmed in an hour by a tech, not an engineer.

@macjshiggins @mattparlmer Better software (learned policies) enables cheaper hardware since you can cut tons of $$$ on precision jigs, which is why this is currently done by humans.
Saving tons of time/effort on programming setup also helps these projects actually pencil out with automation
