This will be nothing like VZ @HayekAndKeynes Iran is the most powerful country in the world right now. It controls the blood supply of the global economy. It's wildest dream wan't half this good It couldn't give a shit about its own people so why negotiate?
The Long View@HayekAndKeynes

@aeberman12 Tell that to Khameni and Iran’s military This will be just like VZ in that situation

@HayekAndKeynes @aeberman12 We need to define what winning is for america and not trump. Regime has been weakened? Check. Regime change? No. Oil disruption for globe? Yes. Unpopular war? Yes. Depleted our arsenal? Yes. Strained relations with some allies? Yes. Eye off China? Yes.

Your comment was that he would look like a loser because he didn’t accomplish the mythical goal of a new political movement despite annihilating their leadership and military capabilities. If he declares victory, it’s a victory. Same as VZ. But in any event, Iran will create new enemies each day. They are not attacking USA by closing Hormuz. They are attacking the entire world.

@chamath @Ryan394729 @POTUS These numbers are directionally correct but remind me again what the price of a commodity is based on? If oil is constrained elsewhere, the market price rises. This helps our o&g industry but this is not Saudi Arabia and excess profits don’t send dividends the public 😆

@chriswithans Do you honestly think voters will be this nuanced around causes of high gas prices? Especially if it’s a war many aren’t thrilled about?

There’s not a single state where gas prices are over $6 for regular, let alone $6.49. And the issue with Biden was because it was from his excessive stimulus spending. This right now is because of a hot war with Iran. You can complain about that war but everyone knows it’s *because* of that war and not misplaced stimulus spending.
Captain Obvious™️@TheFungi669

Remember when MAGAs complained about gas prices being $3.49 per gallon under Biden? In many states they’re over $6.49 per gallon under Trump.

@HayekAndKeynes Totally agree on your gas view. But I guess I’m saying while we are “relative winners”, it is still a huge domestic problem when fertilizer/petchem prices go thru the roof. We just have guaranteed supply at those higher places but tell that to the citizenry and they won’t care

@GestaltU @kkmaway Global entry is the same thing at JFK. This guy has no clue what he’s talking about. Nobody with global entry would wait in an alternative line

@kkmaway Interesting. That definitely surprises me. Is that a JFK thing? When I arrive at MIA I look at a camera and walk through immigration. Zero line every time. Not sure how it could be any quicker. Today it was 40 minutes.

The shutdown of Global Entry is just so diabolically clever. Laser targeted at the cosmopolitan classes; almost no overlap with Trump’s base. Perfect, petty genius.

@shaunmmaguire @RubinReport What does winning look like if it’s a war of attrition? I think the American public is tired of wars regardless how righteous and that is a bipartisan view. Polling will show this too

@shaunmmaguire Can I ask how you have regime change without boots on the ground and simple air strikes? Is the goal to create a civil war and have groups form like Iraq?

This is not WW3 This is the end of a tyrannical regime that has held its entire neighborhood hostage for 47 years Iran’s weapon systems have been systematically degraded over the last 2.5 years This will be swift and decisive

@carney @GoinRaven For sure. I guess I’m talking more the idea of even have junior lawyers how do they really learn to become the next gen partners? Some of the rote tasks are useless some are useful? Not sure

The Republican Senate is running the clock out on Trump. They always hated MAGA and especially MAHA. Boy does the Republican Senate hate MAHA. And now their stooges in “conservative media” are attacking JD. It’s all designed to destroy the country in 2028. To elect Newsom.

@carney Agree with your take. But one underrated or maybe unpopular take is that you understand a company’s financials better if you model them yourself versus if they are done for you. Perhaps also makes for better investment bankers? Like how does the pipeline work?

@carney Assuming most of the murders come from big and small cities across america, it also means those are down significantly hence they are no longer war torn places of doom correct? No need for national guard then? Mission accomplished!

In this thread, I've listed six Japanese bespoke shoemakers. This doesn't even cover everyone, as I haven't talked about Tsuyoshi Ohno, Toru Saito, Shunji Hoshino, and others. I once asked Seiji McCarthy why Japan has so many craftspeople and the US so few. His answer: rent

@shaunmmaguire @geoffwolfe Shaun this is all fine and good but I have yet to see a good explanation on why 4 years later and April 2025 he wasn’t vetted by the new administration before being granted asylum?

@geoffwolfe I strongly disagree Historically there was another level of vetting beyond working w task forces Many that picked up arms were obviously incompatible w/ America The 2021 policy was to take anyone that made it to Hamid Karzai airport And leave behind the rest, even Americans!

This post is on point Afghanistan is complicated It’s a motley mix of different ethnicities and tribal affiliations There were many that would die for freedom But more that would die to oppose it In 2021 we dropped our vetting standards, which was a deadly mistake
Ahmad Shah Mohibi@WarGuy_

I served in the U.S. 🇺🇸 military in Afghanistan. A U.S. General recommended me. I had 45 letters of recommendation. I passed a full clearance process — and still waited 3 years to get my visa. Then 2021 happened. Biden put thousands on planes and flew them into the U.S. visa-free, including the Afghan DC shooter that shot our servicemen—- total chaos.
