In June 2013, @Snowden lifted the lid on U.S. government agencies using data to surveil not only foreigners, but U.S. citizens too.
Through its PRISM program, the NSA (with help from the FBI), obtained unthinkable quantities of data from tech giants like Google, Facebook and Microsoft, among others.
Despite previous statements that the NSA did not collect data “directly” from tech companies, Snowden revealed that they did, and that it was just one portion of a larger picture showing that the U.S. was in the mass surveillance game.
Now, over 12 years later, we're faced with a parallel situation, but instead of social media data, it's AI, too. This could be significantly more damaging.
