@waldenpod Good news is only good on the backdrop of the bad news. There is a hell and we arent good people and deserve gods eternal wrath. Thats bad news which makes jesus saving us such good news. If the bad news isnt even that bad then the good news isnt even that good.

@conservmillen Eternal Conscious Torment is when you find out the Mormons were right and you rejected the prophets and stoned those who were sent.

I had no idea LDS members would balk at this very basic, central belief about hell, heaven, and who goes where. Yes, all Christians believe in hell and that we deserve to go there. That’s the bad news. The good news is, through Christ, we can be saved from hell and instead spend eternity with him. This is not accomplished through ordinances, church membership, or claims of apostolic succession, but through Jesus’s sacrifice alone. The good news is that there is nothing you can or must do to earn your way into God’s Presence. Rather, Jesus’s blood is sufficient in making us clean and acceptable before God. You are free to believe that access to eternity with Jesus can only be accomplished through following LDS ordinances, and that non-LDS members will only have a degree of glory (but not God’s presence) in the afterlife. It’s just not a Christian belief. For a believer in Christ, there is nothing good about the news that we non-Mormons will live forever in a “better place” but without the presence of Jesus. That is not heaven. Jesus is the prize! And our place with Him is secured by grace through faith in Him. Hallelujah! “For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” Romans 10:13

@conservmillen I’m very happy you had this conversation with Jacob. It’s the best advertisement for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I’ve seen in a long time.

I am fine with/expect LDS members disagreeing with the gospel. I would just appreciate the admission that it is indeed a different gospel than what any Christian believes

My girls were thrilled to find a small garter snake in our yard today. They thought it was cute. I explained that garter snakes are harmless, and that they help keep bugs and rodents under control. For a few minutes, this tiny creature turned into a little moment of wonder for them. A couple hours later, a golf cart full of young men drove past our yard on the course we live on. One of them yelled, “Look, a snake!” The driver shouted, “I’ll get it!” and swerved the cart to run it over. Then he backed up and ran it over again. And again. His friends laughed. It all happened too fast for me to stop it. After they drove away, I went over, gathered the broken body of the little snake, and hid it in the rough so my daughters wouldn’t see it. I know it was “just a snake.” But I felt sick. Something that had filled my girls with curiosity and wonder was killed for a moment of amusement. And I can’t stop thinking about how much better the world would be if more people learned to protect small, harmless things instead of finding joy in destroying them.

@madyhone The reason why you can't go to a Mormon and get the full information is that they are taught to only give out the milk and not the meat. Then, later, you really find out what they actually believe. D&C 19:21-22.
