He doesn’t seem to understand Just War theory. It doesn’t hold that war is ever good. It holds that it is necessary evil to avoid a greater evil. God does not “bless it”. It’s proponents hold that God tolerates it in a fallen world to avoid a worse evil.

The Pope and his episcopate have every right to address the various social and political issues of the day.
The also have the responsibility to study the issues, gather the requisite data on both sides (such as that presented by Tom Homan below), weigh such against timeless Catholic principles, and speak in a manner that is prudent and aimed at the common good.

@mafeld300 @prganthony My problem with what Vance said was in his criticism of what the Pope said about God not blessing war. This revealed Vance’s lack of understating of Just War theory (as we find it in Augustine). But thanks for the constructive feedback 🙂

@prganthony Very good point. I mean necessary evil in the sense of "tragic necessity", not moral evil but natural evil. God's blessing, from the Augustinian viewpoint speaks to God's presence in a way that renders it good and God's will aka, more a theological virtue than a cardinal one.

For all confused at what this means. No the Pope is not shilling for Islam, let me explain:
This is an excerpt from his homily. He is talking to an exclusively Christian audience. He begins by reminding his listeners of the 19 Algerian martyrs killed by Muslim militants. He then talks to them about the importance of the gospel and the truth. Then he talks about how to have peace (communion) with Muslims and states that such peace starts with Our Lady.
It’s actually good advice on how to start a conversation and find common ground with Muslims.

The Catholic Church consistently opposes physician-assisted suicide, organ harvesting that kills the donor, abortion, IVF, the death penalty, and more. It's a very coherent ethic of life from conception to natural death.
Maybe do even the slightest bit of research before posting next time.
What this really boils down to is a bunch of non-Catholics are mad that the Pope is taking what they perceive as a political stance... yet they are also furious he's not taking their preferred political stance or expressing outrage & condemnation in exactly the tone & timing they demand.
