I don’t know anything about oil. The one lesson I learned from 2022 was whenever oil folks start talking about “paper vs physical markets” or “paper market getting it all wrong” that it’s time to run as far away from oil as I can and take comfort that the worst is basically over.

More than 20 commercial ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours, according to two U.S. officials. The development comes as the U.S. enforces a blockade of Iranian ports. Ships that aren’t visiting Iran’s ports aren’t subject to the blockade and are being allowed to transit freely.
The ships that crossed the strait include cargo, container and tanker vessels going into and out of the Persian Gulf, one of the officials said. Some ships have traveled without their transponders on to minimize the risk of Iranian attacks. The threat of Iranian attacks and sea mines has deterred most vessels from trying to sail through the narrow waterway during the war.
