The hyper focus of the us military on tactical prowess really does resemble the Wehrmacht circa 1941. A terrifying killing machine of an army intended to inflict intimidatingly high casualties at first contact and force the enemy to collapse from morale/cohesion failure

@LevelHeading @MadamSavvy If I was running a Cloudflare event and they were handing out blank or even just mostly blank drink covers with a URL on them, and not any of the other weird weeb shit, I probably woulda let that slide After seeing everything in the packet, I would absolutely kick those guys out

Id kick you out of my events too. If i get something at a corpo party, i assume there is branding affiliation. You try to win social points by it being a “good will” product but this is very performative. You were probably asked to stop and kept doing it. On top of that, there is an implication here that you think cloudflare cant protect people at the party and that looks worse on them since you were not invited. You invaded a space without thinking and demand to be given special consideration due to “pure intentions” ….of fucking advertising.

Dear @Cloudflare our field team got kicked out of your party for handing out drink protection kits By a Director of Sales. Explain, slowly, what part of "don’t get drugged" conflicts with your brand and beliefs? Go ahead we'll wait

@jscottshipman @MartinSkold2 You are talking about a complete overhaul of the ships design that could take hundreds of billions and decades to implement The ship class is designed from the ground up around EMALS

@MartinSkold2 Indeed; the USN should pull the NIMITZ plans off the shelf and slightly modify (particularly the propulsion plant) and, if possible, return to steam catapults, as they are proven and work under difficult circumstances. EMALS is cool, but probably not battle worthy.

Broke: Flying B-52s because they’re cheaper than overpriced and underproduced B-21s Woke: Operating a 50-year-old carrier with a reactor about to fail because it’s all you have when an overpriced and underproduced ship class is revealed to be fatally vulnerable to exploding washer-dryers

RUMINT: USS Nimitz is being redeployed to the Caribbean. She was supposed to be decommissioned this month. But the events in the Mideast and the overall US Naval Shipyard crisis changed those plans. Now, it looks like the USS Gerald R. Ford is out of commission. For A LONG TIME.

Two German friends came to visit me in Texas over a decade ago. Naturally I took them to the Fort Worth Rodeo. They absolutely LOVED it. The only part that puzzled them was when a cowgirl galloped on horseback around the ring with a Coca Cola flag. They asked, “Isn’t this government funded?” I said “Nope”. That surprised them. They also loved the steakhouses I took them to but I could not get them to order steak properly- they always wanted well-done.

@buffbernerr @gabe_wiseman2 @BMillerSZN @Swagsx2 @BookitWithTrent Everybody is trying to lawyer their way out of what is a ‘block’ and ‘fair contact’ lol 1/100 tries you might give a solid swing and muster a groundout against Skenes. 100/100 tries you will square up against Garrett and you will go straight to the hospital

@8019_sam @TheStingisBack I mean I think the point of it was to drive home the idea that there will be very little hope for a better future in a post-nuclear world (which, for a long time, that will probably be true)

In the early ’80s, two landmark TV films tackled nuclear war: The Day After (US) and Threads (UK). Both showed the effects of nuclear fallout on ordinary people. They were grim, unsettlingly accurate, and terrifying. Neither offered a happy ending.

Yes, that is true to some extent, but the amount of smoke from burning cities etc, would still impact the climate. The reason old nukes were in the 2 to 10 mT range was because of accuracy: If they overshot the target by 3 or 4 miles, they were still guaranteed to destroy it. Nowadays, the weapons are far more accurate, so they don't need as much explosive power. That being said, even a 500kT weapon could really ruin your day.

@8019_sam @TheStingisBack Fwiw, the stuff about nuclear winter is widely concerned today as having been overblown unless a large amount of >2MT detonations occur (most weapons used in a strategic exchange are expected to be under 500kT, which are not powerful enough to eject soot beyond the stratosphere)

@TheStingisBack There was also the accompanying BBC documentary 'On the Eighth Day' (1984), which explored nuclear winter and its apocalyptic fallout in grim scientific detail. It was probably even more depressing than Threads.

@BKirby112 @CypressDahlia @GenePark In Earthbound, damage from attacks is not typically dealt all at once, even attacks that deal lethal damage. HP ticks down like a DoT spell, and you get a few moments to rattle off more actions before the HP hits zero

Earthbound is often only credited for its cultural and stylistic impact but it was also ahead of its time in some other ways. Rolling HP, the fact that it's one giant, connected map with no "overworld", and this. It had this in 1994. It's not all just "quirk chungus RPG"
Chad Concelmo@Chad_Concelmo

More RPGs need to add the feature that lets you automatically defeat enemies if you are much higher level than them. It makes exploring so much more fun.
