That cycle might feel a bit deterministic at times, especially with the way institutions evolve in a messy, non-linear way. The channels of nuclear deterrence and crisis management might also be more constraining than many analogies suggest, especially in a more diffuse multipolar world where actors like India, a strategically autonomous Europe, and the Global South might play a larger role than a more US-China-centric perspective might suggest.

Professor, thank you for a timely and thought-provoking chapter. One of the most critical ways Africa can shape the evolving global order is through sustained strategic coordination rather than episodic diplomacy. While a multipolar world offers greater bargaining power, the lack of a consistent continental approach, anchored in institutions such as the AU, AfCFTA, and voting blocs like the A3, risks fragmenting progress and undermining Africa’s collective potential. Embedding value-addition requirements, technology-transfer provisions, and regulatory harmonisation within partnership frameworks could transform Africa’s geopolitical positioning from short-term gains to long-term structural upgrading. The chapter’s focus on domestic resource mobilisation, blended finance, and value addition is conceptually well founded. This, however presumes a level of institutional capacity and political cohesion that varies widely across the continent. While the fiscal uplift scenario (Figure 22) signals a promising offset of potentially exceeding $200 billion as ODA declines, the continent’s think tanks might more directly engage with challenges such as governance fragility, elite capture, weak tax systems, and conflict-affected political economies, that has constrain implementation of anything productive since time immemorial (the elephant in the room, the wall that needs dismantling). Shaping the global order would agreeably, yes, depend on external strategy, though the most important will be sequencing internal reforms, linking fiscal modernisation, administrative capacity, and accountability to continental bargaining strength. That said, diversifying partnerships is necessary but insufficient. Strengthening domestic institutions remains essential to sustaining external agency. Africa’s influence, ultimately, will be defined less by the number of partners it engages and more by the coherence of its internal coordination.

🚀 Africa’s Moment to Shape the Global Order The global order is being rewritten. The question is no longer whether Africa will be affected by it, but how Africa will help define it. I’m pleased to share my Brookings Global Economy and Development Foresight Africa essay, co-authored with @achaleke and Mayowa Kuyoro, on how Africa is transitioning from the margins of global decisionmaking to the center of global transformation. With the world’s youngest population, vast critical minerals essential for the energy transition, expanding digital ecosystems, and growing geopolitical agency, Africa is recalibrating global power, production, and prosperity. But potential does not automatically translate into influence. Real leadership will require: • Stronger domestic resource mobilization and innovative financing • Strategic regional coordination through the AfCFTA and AU • Digital and industrial capacity building at scale • Institutional reforms that convert demographics into dividends Africa’s moment is here. The imperative now is execution, with ambition, coordination, and strategic clarity. 🔗 Read the full essay: brookings.edu/articles/afric… I welcome your reflections: How can Africa most effectively shape the evolving global order? #Africa #GlobalOrder #ForesightAfrica #Development #Geopolitics #Leadership #Brookings @BrookingsGlobal @BrookingsInst @Thunderbird

From all of this, everything else, including the 2030 noise, becomes relatively straightforward 🚮 . • US$1.6bn to purchase a 35% stake in Kuvimba, with the identity of its beneficiaries a mystery? • A sovereign fund exempt from procurement regulations? • A fund with zero parliamentary oversight? • A CEO who oversaw a currency collapse? • Treasury bills forced onto citizens with a return of just 0.05%? It’s a political construct masquerading as a national dream. The bar has already fallen from the rack. The Temasek/Temasek Holdings or Norway’s Government Pension Fund Global model is marketing, not governance. The system is structurally closer to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) than to good governance, high concentration of political power, exemption from regular rules, opaque related-party transactions, and debt imposed on the citizenry. If the government is genuinely convinced of the developmental nature of this particular fund, rather than its apparent extractive nature, then the litmus test is simple: 1️⃣ Publish audited accounts; 2️⃣ Disclose the ultimate recipients and valuations for the Kuvimba Mining House purchase; 3️⃣ Ensure parliamentary oversight is not circumvented. These are standard governance norms, following the incentives and the numbers. Otherwise, if not part of the elite, you can continue enjoying “rambai makashinga” till 2030 UPPER MIDDLE INCOME ECONOMY!

This rhetoric has little to do with reasoned debate and even less to define the course of our future. The only real driving factor is innovation: BRICS needs to create a currency as trusted, liquid, and widely accepted as the US dollar. It is a matter not of rhetoric or declarations but of concrete measures. While BRICS indeed can challenge the dollar with their new currency, a number of internal hurdles, like economic disparity and geopolitical tension among members, may severely curtail their success. If such a situation arises, while the U.S. might use tariffs as a stopgap measure, the bigger challenge would be in innovating and earning the world's trust.

The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER. We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy. They can go find another “sucker!” There is no chance that the BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, and any Country that tries should wave goodbye to America.

In view of the pointed criticism raised by Dr. @ibbosnr regarding the legitimacy and conduct of the current SADC summit, it becomes incumbent upon us to ask ourselves why it is that this current government is so desperate to hold onto power. When every credible election observer including SADC itself has condemned the electoral process as fraudulent and farcical, what possible justification can there be for the persistence of this regime? Is it the fear of accountability or perhaps just plain refusal to show respect for the will of the people? It is time for some soul-searching, this relentless grip on power only deepens the legitimacy crisis and further erodes trust in the nation’s democratic institutions

So we have easily a crisis over this over exaggerated SADC summit: I have witnessed at least 40 summits, having been at the inaugural one on 2 April 1980 in Lusaka. To put it simply, someone in Harare is afflicted chronically with a legitimacy deficit, following an election which EVERY election observer mission. Including SADC’s one, condemned as fraudulent and farcical. So it’s a fraudulent Summit by any standards, the worst in the history of SADC. Let’s make that sink.

How about; Here is a resignation letter from Nyiko Floyd Shivambu addressed to the "Comrade President" of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) political party.   In the letter, Shivambu informs the president that his membership with the EFF has lapsed and that he does not intend to renew it. He expresses his intent to resign from his position as a Member of Parliament and all other positions within the EFF, conditional upon approval from the organization. He emphasizes that his decision is not a vote of no confidence in the EFF, but a revolutionary act to allow progressive forces to continue working towards revolutionary change.   Shivambu also reflects on his service to the EFF, noting his commitment to revolutionary discipline and practice, and his dedication to the cause of economic emancipation. He stresses the importance of not compromising the integrity of the organization and expresses his hope that his decision will be communicated in a way that does not harm the organization.   He concludes by wishing the EFF continued success and prosperity and expresses his belief that political decisions should never be personalized or seen as betrayals of the cause.   The letter is signed by Nyiko Floyd Shivambu and is copied to the Secretary General Commissar Marshall Dlamini and the Central Command Team. Nothing less, nothing more!

This resignation letter offers FABULOUS literature exam questions. Floyd is obviously smart. He expertly implies a lot of stuff. He defends his record & life's philosoph. Was there an accusation to the contrary? He assures EFF that he will not say anything that causes harm. BUT

#NPAbriefOnMpofuChimombeCase Here is a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on the Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe case: Harare businessmen, Moses Mpofu (49) and Mike Chimombe (43) appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing fraud charges. Allegations are that the accused persons forged a ZIMRA Tax clearance certificate and a NSSA compliance certificate in the name of Blackdeck Private Limited and attached them in a bidding document which they submitted to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development for a tender for the supply and delivery of goats for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme. They misrepresented that the company was in full compliance with ZIMRA and NSSA requirements. Investigations indicated that the QR code and the reference on the NSSA compliance certificate were issued to a different company. Itwas further established that Blackdeck Private limited was deregistered from the NSSA system in January 2016. Further investigations established that Blackdeck Private Limited was not issued with a ZIMRA tax clearance certificate for the year 2021 and that the QR code on the forged tax clearance certificate belonged to a different company. Acting on the misrepresentation, the Ministry of Lands contracted Blackdeck Private Limited on the 3rd of November 2021. The Ministry transferred ZWL901 294 200 and ZWL698 705 800 on the 21st of April 2022 and the 29th of June 2022 respectively into their bank account. The total amount was ZWL1.6 billion and was equivalent to USD7 712 197. Following delays in delivery of the goats, the Ministry of Lands officials made several engagements with the accused persons. The accused persons misrepresented that they had mobilized 32 500 goats across the provinces which were ready to be distributed to the beneficiaries. However, a verification process revealed that the accused persons only had 3 713 goats in their holding sites. The Ministry canceled the contract on the 29th of August 2022, following the discovery. The accused persons only supplied a total of 4 208 goats valued at USD331 445 and went on to convert USD7 380 751 to their personal use. Nothing was recovered. They were remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail hearing.

A fortnight ago , the @ZANUPF_Official Politburo met amidst the breaking out of the $40m Zecgate scandal , contrary to social media reports suggesting a discussion of the matter , nothing was said nor raised , understandbly so because a full expose and forensic audit of Zecgate threatens the very existence of Zanu PF itself given the intractable involvement of officialdom in this saga. Today the same Party Cabinet meets again in the background of the $87million Goatgate scandal + another $9million Toiletgate scandal again sucking in largely the same players only this time coming from a different factional grouping but holding damning evidence which could potentially suck the apex of the Party & Government into a mess exceeding Willowgate scandal proportions! Zanu PF is caught between a rock and a hard place , its mantra against " criminals surrounding the President " referring to the Military 's decision to stand down Robert Mugabe from the office of President has come round 360° in the prophetic 7 years to haunt the man who benefited from his boss 's demise , Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa , only this time he appears to be surrounding the criminals himself ! What happens next then going by the November 2017 standards ?

This video was shot by a train driver in Zimbabwe to show the decomposed railway system that now exists. Zimbabwe had one of the best railway systems in the world before independence, it competed with the British Railway system and its signals system was ahead of the British system. It was all destroyed under ZANUPF, there are no more regular passenger trains in Zimbabwe. The National Railways of Zimbabwe is run by the Government. Incompetent relatives and friends of ZANUPF politicians have been appointed as managers and directors, and they ran the company into the ground. The destruction of the railway system has made doing business in Zimbabwe expensive, but the ZANUPF politicians don’t care because they own transport companies that now move goods. Sadly, the last colonial ruler, Ian Smith, made a prophecy in 1980 which, at the time, was deemed racist. He said that under ZANUPF, using the railway system would be deemed dangerous, leading to the abandonment of railway services due to corruption and incompetence. That is exactly what happened. If Smith could talk, he would say, 'I told you so.' When I write about these things, I am called a Western puppet by ZANUPF, yet I am only calling for a return to normalcy that will benefit ALL Zimbabweans! No country succeeds economically without a railway system, destroying the railway system is one of the most UNPATRIOTIC things ZANUPF has ever done! What is patriotic about running a country without a decent railway system and making your country a laughing stock due to tragic failures caused by your corruption and incompetence? The board for the National Railways of Zimbabwe is chaired by ZANUPF politician Mike Madiro. President Emmerson Mnangagwa also appointed 82-year-old ZANUPF politician Tshinga Dube to the board. Before Madiro, the board was chaired by another ZANUPF politician, Martin Dinha. All they do is loot and pillage state enterprises. That is Zimbabwe’s story under ZANUPF, and the evidence is below in this video!

HERALD’S EXPLOSIVE EXPOSE ON NEVERS MUMBA: In what is definitely sure to rock SADC STRUCTURES AND PROCEDURES, today The Herald publishes the first in a three-part expose which show SEOM Chairman on Zimbabwean Elections literally delivering SEOM to EU upon setting foot on Zimbabwean soil, and his prejudicial predisposition to Zim Elections before he had even started the observation process. It emerges the EU was hell-bent on securing a negative rating through SEOM, after realising censorious rating by itself or the Carter Centre would be easy to dismiss as a continuation of the longstanding standoff between Harare, Brussels and Washington. Such revelations are sure put SADC under serious spotlight. Meeting of Foreign Ministers of TROIKA and Angola appear aware of this great foreboding, urging future SEOM Missions to ensure integrity and technical competencies.
