I built a screensaver clock app: YonderClock. apps.apple.com/us/app/id67628… The concept: turn time zones into scenery. Screensaver clocks are a timeless category. There's Fliqlo — unchanged for twenty years, winning with black-and-white minimalism. There's Bauhaus Clock, winning with design aesthetics. They're both beautiful, but beautiful in the same way: designing around the clock's own elements. I wanted to do something different. That's how Bigan Clock was born. The background is real landmarks rendered in Apple Maps 3D, automatically cycling to a new location every 15 minutes based on the current time of day. Time zones are no longer just numbers — they become specific places on Earth. The app started from a concept called the antipode. An antipode is the point on Earth that is perfectly symmetric to you through the center of the globe. The fascinating part: the time difference between you and your antipode is exactly 12 hours — your noon is their midnight, your dawn is their dusk. Like two people standing back-to-back at opposite ends of the Earth, sharing the same sun. I found this concept fascinating. But sadly, most people's antipodes land in the ocean or on mountaintops — the hit rate is very low. So I thought: what if we dropped the strict symmetry requirement and used a coarser grain — morning, midday, evening — to reach more landmarks? That became the core idea of Bigan Clock: see the scenery behind the time difference. 500+ global landmarks, 35 cities, covering dawn, noon, and dusk. Every new landmark you see is automatically added to a stamp collection, gradually building a time-zone world you've witnessed. My story: My sleep schedule is a mess — I often stay up until 3 or 4 AM. One night I glanced at my widget and saw that it was midday in Los Angeles. I suddenly remembered something my mom used to say when I was little: "You're on an American schedule — it's daytime over there right now." Seeing that widget flashed me back to that memory. It was a quietly wonderful moment. When I'm working, I'll open it and just let it run in the background. I don't need to stare at it — it's just there. Every now and then I glance up: the Eiffel Tower at high noon, or the Sydney Opera House slipping into evening. It's a little more than a plain black screensaver, but not enough to distract you.
