Schools fail to identify #gifted students. Some estimate 3.6 million more ought to be designated this way. Those gifted students who are missing are disproportionately children of color or from poverty. Thx for your leadership @marciagentry theconversation.com/schools-often-…

@marciagentry :“About 15% of all students are Black, but only 8.5% of students identified as gifted and talented are Black. Roughly 27% of students are Latino, yet only 18% of the students determined to be gifted and talented are Latino.” @ShannonCauble @BeAnnYounker @2nd3rdGT

@edpolicyjunkie @JonathanPlucker @realScottPeters I haven analyzed that either, but this finding is consistent across most states

@JonathanPlucker @marciagentry @realScottPeters Title I schools are more likely to identify gifted students than non-Title I schools. Any idea why? I haven't done the analysis, but maybe more Title I schools are located in states with gifted identification mandates?

@cmatthewfugate @NAGCGIFTED Agree, the right thing to do. Now we can move forward with an eye toward social justice, rather than backward.
