my roommate has the worst case of OCD i’ve seen. he folds his dirty laundry, not once, but ten times at least, he flashes lights three times before turning them on or off. and bangs his ring on a hard surface three times after everything. watching him gives me a headache.

Wilbur left us and the sun still came up today, which surprised me. Found on the streets, he was never meant to stay in my life. And now I can’t believe he’s gone. I know everyone thinks their dog is the best dog ever - and we’re all correct.

@PanasonicDX4500 I don’t think it was too much. I think it wasn’t strategic. But we’ll see.

Here, to laminate and frame are my top 100 movies of all time. Article to follow where I give some thoughts on each. (Again, this isn't saying they're the objective "best just films that capture my personal fancy and I return to often, etc, & I'm sure I forgot something.)

Listened to @VickyPJWard on Fresh Air, great interview. Her early efforts to expose Jeffrey Epstein at @VanityFair remind me, verbatim, of my early efforts to expose Harvey Weinstein at the New York Times circa 2005. Institutions are hard to move. And timing is everything.

So proud of my ‘work wife ‘ at wma for 10 years. She helped shape both the way films are sold now and she also shaped a very rough edged me into who I am. Love her so much. Look at at the films we did. It’s monumental and she only mentions a few. Boy we had a blast and we turned Sundance into major sales market together. We will always be part of Sundance history. We had this incredible conversation the other night about it all. Wish I’d recorded it.

Some time in late 2015 a lot of things were converging in my mind. I had become involved in Women in Films’ Reframe program which was fighting to get more female directors working in Hollywood. I had had an unbelievable near death experience with this young vet on the plane that made we want to lean into more mentorship programs like the @horizonaward and the black list fellowship I had set up. A friend , Kyle Tekiela , sent me script called ‘mudbound’ and said it was an Oscar script which is a phrase people throw around regularly. I read it and cried not just because it was devastating but to get this kind of material at this stage in my career was so meaningful. It was about a young black vet returning to his home in the south after the 2nd world war only to find Jim Crowe is still in full swing and his service to his country means nothing. My first thought was I should find a black female director. I could only think of four. I remembered this great movie I’d seen in Sundance called Pariah directed by Dee Rees and realised my former asst was her agent at wma. I called him, he got it to her and she was in. We went straight into casting. I was in a deal with two young producer/ financiers Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros and they loved it. I called my friend Charles King who had just started macro and he was in too. We shot during the summer of 2016 with an incredible cast including Carey Mulligan , Rob Morgan , Mary J Blige , Jason Mitchell , Jason Clarke and Garrett Hedlund. We hustled to get it ready for Sundance and they invited us. The first screening in the Eccles on Saturday evening was rapturous with a long standing ovation. We were really excited at the party after when the first A+ reviews started rolling in. I figured it would sell immediately. Over the next few days we got only no advance , straight distribution offers - not good for a 12m movie. I called a distribution company head who is a friend and said what’s going on here. ‘ it’s obvious ‘ he said. ‘ it’s a period movie with a black female director it has no chance ‘. By Thursday all the buyers had gone home. I was sitting have breakfast with Charles. We were in shock. No offers. He said dejectedly I know Netflix passed but should I ask Ted to see it. He texted him. He said he heard it was good and was coming up to Sundance to ski with a friend. If we got the dvd to his condo he would watch it the next night after dinner. The friend was Adam Sandler and they loved it. The next morning Dee met Ted and about 30 minutes after I closed a deal with Ted. The rest is history. The film was nominated for 4 Academy Awards. Dee was nominated alongside Virgil Williams for best screenplay the first time for a black woman in that category. Rachel Morrison was the first female cinematographer to be nominated. Mary J was nominated for best supporting actress and best song.

@marciliroff I have a theory but it also just comes down to that category being hella competitive this year. All five nominees are so deserving, I don't know who I'd take out.
