@davepl1968 If it had the UI for terminating processes looking like Star Invaders it would have been the best task manager ever.

This is probably what Task Manager would look like (and sound like) if I were still around. Which is why it's a good thing I knew to stay in my lane, design-wise :-) Live display: davepl.com:8765/?fps=10 Code: on my github

The thing I don’t get is: Claude Code is writing 100% of Claude code now. But Anthropic has 100+ open dev positions on their jobs page. ?

In Germany it is illegal to idle your car engine to heat up the car even in winter. If it is - 10C outside you will just have to drive in a freezing cold car. All in the name of reducing climate emissions.

@DaveC5599 @CNviolations The men in the video are railway workers exchanging tokens with train drivers on heritage lines. This safety system ensures only one train occupies a single-track section, often using hoops for quick handoffs without stopping.

Until Linux starts making basic things like this easier, there won't be a year of the Linux. Just set up Fedora 43, and here are the commands needed to prevent it from sleeping.

@beaversteever So true!!! I always wonder that especially now with cars packed with electronics - are more prone to failures? But when was a last time an electronic device of any kind broke? I can’t recall. Replacing dry capacitors in old hi-fi is as far as “breakdowns” go.

As a hardware engineer I can't imagine getting paged at 3am because of a system outage if our hardware had outages like that people would literally die why can't software engineers just make more robust software?

Sorry @DeborahMeaden, But this simply isn’t true. You and I both know this Labour government is running an economic model which benefits us and punishes everyone else, why, because it’s inflationary and inflation protects us. Monetary expansion pushes asset prices up. The rich get richer. The poor get poorer. I benefit from it. You benefit from it. Let’s not pretend otherwise. And yes, I understand you have a public brand to protect, but your public brand should at least demonstrate common sense regarding economics. Keir Starmer isn’t unpopular because he’s not an “empty showman.” He’s unpopular precisely because he says anything and delivers nothing. Welfare handouts are not delivery, reversing stagnation, driving productivity, rewarding workers…this would be delivering, as a Dragon you should know this. Under this government, the poor are more trapped in welfare than ever. The working class have seen their disposable income collapse. Small businesses and the middle class are being taxed and regulated into the ground. The only people doing well under this government are people like us. This government has been great for me financially, and I suspect for you too. But that’s exactly the point. It’s been a disaster for everyone else. If we want an honest conversation about the state of this country, we need people with platforms, people like you, to stop hiding behind polite fiction and say what’s actually happening. Have a lovely weekend.
Deborah Meaden 🇺🇦@DeborahMeaden

Nope. As for popularity… if that’s true it’s because he’s not an empty showman willing to say anything and deliver nothing. If you still don’t like him after the strongest anti immigration plan we’ve seen.. there is literally nothing he can do,

@aarshps @rakyll Having VMs would not decrease management overhead BUT it would create cpu contention. Two separate machines are better for this.

@rakyll While interesting, managing two machines for one person seems overly complex. Better off consolidating or using VMs for side projects for efficiency.

I have two dev machines. On my primary machine, I'm doing my regular work. On the second, I have several coding agents working on my side projects. It feels like I have two interns working on a number of ideas I had but never been able kick off until now.

@marcingminski @NoContextHumans Ok, so help us out with this one… he buys a cow for $800 and then sells it for $1 million. Then he buys it back for $20 and then sells it for $1000. What is his total profit? $200? 😂😂😂

@marcingminski @NoContextHumans It's not irrelevant when part of it takes you into negative/debt. -800 + 1000 = 200 - 1100 = -900 + 1300 = 400

@LuxFella I am a database architect. I can assure you that this is common. An SSN will be a natural key and often natural keys are not good candidates for a primary key so devs pick identity, but forget to add unique constraint on the natural key.

@SpanielCooper1 @basilthegreat The problem is that once the backdoor is implemented, who would control the “strict rules”, they could be abused. Same with the house front door - if they’re there, the house can be broken into - the only way to prevent burglary is to replace the front door with a brick wall.
