@SkySportsBoxing I’m reminded of the Mark Twain maxim with Joshua’s post-fight antics. “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt.”

@EeziTy @SportsUncensrd Yes, Rice is excellent at shoring up the midfield and giving the defence cover, no denying that. But it doesn’t negate Souness’s point. We scored and then basically stopped playing football. The deeper issue is we lack midfielders who can actually play “football”.

🚧 “The two midfielders [Rice and Anderson] are limited!” 😲 “I think [Rice] might be a centre half!” Graeme Souness believes England’s midfield pairing are not as good as people make out… 📺 youtu.be/xxT3DlF900I

@BBCNews Andy Burnham’s summer ‘listening tour’ is giving strong early Tony Blair vibes… roadshows and town halls right after 1997, all about doing politics differently. Blair’s didn’t last long once governing got real. Interesting throwback.

@henrywinter A case of England losing a game they were in control of as much as Argentina winning it. A completely self-inflicted defeat. Credit to Argentina’s mentality and will to win.

Good luck to the great Lionel Messi and Argentina in the World Cup final. And good luck to Thomas Tuchel trying to explain those defensive, expensive subs. #ENGARG

@WelsbyElton A completely self-inflicted defeat for England tonight. At 1-0 up after Gordon’s goal, we had the perfect chance to kill the game off. Instead, Tuchel dropped deep and tried to defend a fragile lead for 30 minutes. Argentina went all in and deserved the win.

@robstaton I am entitled to disagree with you. France weren’t awful, they were tactically suffocated by Spain’s elite high press and positional play. There’s a big difference. I’m also not fixated on X all day, but calling it out isn’t ‘bonkers’. Relax and enjoy the football tonight.

@marcusdibley France played badly. You are just flat out wrong to suggest that either wasn’t the case or had no impact on the game. That you’re still arguing this, an hour before England play, is absolutely bonkers. Stop.

@robstaton There’s a massive difference between a team being ‘awful’ and a team being completely suffocated, Rob. France didn’t play badly, Spain’s elite high press and flawless positional play outdid them. Don’t mistake tactical destruction for a poor performance.

@robstaton I don't think so. My point is that Spain's high-level pressing and positional play made France look far worse than they have against lesser opponents. This Spain team under De la Fuente is excellent at suffocating teams through structure and intensity.

@marcusdibley You’re the one being pedantic. I’ve already said Spain were excellent. But it is also true that France didn’t turn up and were awful. You don’t have to pretend that also wasn’t the case.

@robstaton Let’s not be pedantic Rob. France were poor precisely because weren’t allowed to play by a Spain side that high-pressed and retained possession beautifully. As you say a masterclass.

@marcusdibley I said it was a masterclass. But let’s not put this French display *all* on Spain. It’s ok to say they’ve been absolute dross

@henrywinter France were so poor because they weren’t allowed the room to play by high pressing Spain. The Spanish players commitment to the cause and their technical ability to win and retain possession was the difference.

Les Semiserables. France so poor, almost lifeless, suffocated by the superb Spanish, who dominated midfield. Rodri supreme. Cucurella and Porro outstanding full-backs. Deservedly through to the #FIFAWorldCup final #FRAESP

@prodnose No way. The technical nous, teamwork and precision passing of Spain are making France, the team of the tournament to this point look like chumps. The winner of this game will be heavy favourites to win the World Cup.

If Spain win this they may as well send the trophy across to the England camp now. No doubt. No analysis. We will win this World Cup.

@JohnSimpsonNews It’s true that tomorrow’s match carries historical and political connotations beyond football. But the outcome won’t change attitudes toward the Falklands. Win or lose, Argentina will continue its claim to Las Malvinas.

Argentina v England is important way beyond football. If Argentina wins tomorrow night, it’ll put real fire behind the demand for the Falklands. If England wins, that should put the lid on it — for now.

@cetincem No, it doesn’t. Pickford made a very good save, but Gordon Banks’ stop against Pelé’s header is still rightly regarded as the greatest save of all time. I wouldn’t compare them.

@KeithPenelope3 @BBCSport I know what you mean. There are very few commentators of Barry Davies’ calibre; the ones who truly understand when to speak and when to let the pictures tell the story. That’s a rare skill these days.

@prinxikenna7 @piersmorgan Take nothing away from Cristiano Ronaldo, he's one of the all time greats. But unlike Luka Modrić and Croatia, Portugal have often looked a better, more balanced team without Ronaldo in the starting line up. That's the difference. Bye-bye.

@footballontnt We've had the privilege of watching Luka Modrić grace the international stage for over 20 years. So many unforgettable moments, dictating games for club and country with a level of composure few have ever matched. One of the last true No. 10 playmakers. A footballing genius.
