He was brought in by his owners, scared and trembling in the kennel. As the shelters intake team always does, they explained the reality—that he is at high risk for euthanasia due to overcrowding.
The wife’s response? “Do what you have to do.”
The husband quietly asked staff to please help him. It’s heartbreaking, and honestly, it’s hard not to feel angry for Chance.
Chance is a stunning, neutered 1.5-year-old German Shepherd who should be enjoying life—not sitting in a shelter after being abandoned.
When I first met him, he was curled up in the back of his kennel, completely shut down and terrified. He just needed time. And that’s the thing about dogs—they live in the moment. I came back the very next day, and he had adjusted.
Chance walked out of his kennel and ignored all the barking dogs, showing us the beautiful dog he truly is. He is a big, magnificent boy and allowed full handling with ease. We introduced him to Heide, and he did wonderfully—calm, appropriate greetings with polite tail sniffs. When Heide turned toward him face-to-face, Chance responded with a playful bow, showing great social skills and a sweet, playful nature.
He passed his evaluation and absolutely deserves a chance at life.
Right now, Chance is in the same shelter as Rocky, No Name, and Thor—and they are at CODE RED capacity. FULL.
Time is critical.
If you can open your home to foster Chance and give him the second chance he deserves, please email me ASAP.
Plea sent out at 7:51am this morning 🙏
This is like his fifth plea sent out and he has run out of time.
He’s now at risk of euthanasia and urgently needs a foster for VGSR, or an adopter from the Roanoke, VA shelter. 💔
