The book "Shopping All the Way to the Woods" by Rachel Gross is a great look at how outdoor lifestyles are wrapped up in performative virtue signaling. And how even at the turn of the 20th century, people looked at the distant past and moaned about how things used to be better.

@HeerJeet feeling betrayed that deep-blue Asheville, where I live, has been devastated by a friendly-fire hurricane. Dems must develop laser-guided 'smart' weather disasters

If Harris wins, we're going to get so many conspiracy theories mainstreamed in GOP about Democrats controlling the weather.

Swapping stories with others from this side of town. Hearing horrible things about Swannanoa, North Fork, and locations up Highway 9. Thought we would have an NPR update on 88.1 at 4p, but that never came through.

@SplinteredSpace @the_dadchef One reason is that pigs are omnivores that have often lived as scavengers, happily eating garbage, shit, carrion, even human corpses. Some people find that unappetizing. If you want a more complicated answer, have I got the book for you.

Why do some hesitate to eat pork? I get that pigs are considered dirty animals and eating them is taboo in some religions but I don’t get it. Pork is so tasty.

Anyway, it's been three hours now, and I'm having him record a video where he says he's safe, he's being treated humanely, and he's excited to learn the details of Deke's past surgeries and subsequent recoveries.

An employee just asked me discreetly "Hey I heard you had [procedure] a few years ago. Can I ask you a few questions?" As an Old Guy, angels sang. Felt like my cat when I offer the can of sardines. Time crumbles all things, except dudes' enthusiasm to discuss their surgeries.

@jeremystark certainly not in my experience, though there's no reason the Panepinto family couldn't breed up such a creature
