Yesterday in Parliament, Sam Atandi said KRA should go harder on tax evaders and force more Kenyans into paying taxes.
Then MP Nzengu stood up and said something many leaders avoid:
👉 Development in the supplementary budget is being channeled to a few regions
👉 Roads, projects, same places, same beneficiaries
👉 The rest of Kenya? Watching from the sidelines
Now let’s be honest....
You can’t bully people into paying taxes while sidelining them.
You can’t:
❌ Ignore entire regions
❌ Concentrate development in select areas
❌ Then demand “compliance” from everyone
That’s not taxation.
That’s extraction.
Because tell me...
How do you expect a mama mboga in rural Kenya to care about taxes
when she sees KSh 1 MILLION A DAY going to helicopters?
Step outside Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and face reality:
❗ No tarmac roads
❗ No dispensaries
❗ No basic services
❗ Entire communities forgotten
Some children in this country have NEVER seen a proper road.
And you’re talking about “expanding the tax base”?
Expand development first.
Let people SEE roads.
Let people ACCESS hospitals.
Let people FEEL government presence.
Then talk about taxes.
Until then, this conversation will remain what it is:
Unfair. Unequal. And unsustainable.

Today in Parliament, I received a petition from the people of Westlands, Dagoretti North, and Dagoretti South, citizens whose ancestral land is now under threat of being taken without due process.
I stand firmly with these families. Land is not just property, it is heritage, identity, and livelihood. Any attempt to dispossess citizens of what is rightfully theirs, especially through opaque or unlawful means, is unacceptable.
