VODG and many of our members were early signatories to this letter to the Chancellor following #Budget2024. This response is extremely disappointing given the breadth of concern and the significant impact we know the increases in NICs will have on frontline care and support.
NCVO@NCVO

1/3 Following the budget in October, more than 7,300 charities signed our open letter calling for action on the planned increase to employer National Insurance Contributions. We’ve received a response from the Chancellor.

Right then. I think we've reached a watershed point in the waging of culture wars, and Conservatives ought to see it, and act on it. I wrote this today: What kind of person would drag autistic children into the culture wars? The Kemi Badenoch kind theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@johnharris1969 @jemgilbert As parent to 2 autistic kids, one of whom cannot even access school, & the other who, after a 2 year absence, can now access (only) a highly specialised place, both of whom were failed & traumatised by mainstream education, this is utterly despicable. Badenoch’s a hateful woman!

Here's K.Badenoch, who thinks an autism diagnosis entails "economic advantages and protections". She also queries providing school transport for autistic kids & has no idea what neurodiversity/divergence are, and why they have abs nothing to do with, say, anxiety. Pls retweet

Today's Covid Inquiry says the pandemic would have been significantly worse if it wasn't for the "individual efforts and dedication" of carers. But 4 years on, how have they been rewarded? Minimum wage, forcing many out of the industry, while sectoral reform remains on hold.

Hundreds of vulnerable children sent to illegal and unregulated care homes - important work from our friends @TogetherTrust highlighting this very concerning, growing problem. Absolutely shameful how we treat our most vulnerable children theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

The @observer has found councils placed 706 children (mostly aged under 16) in homes not registered with Ofsted in 2022-23. Ofsted didn't prosecute any providers in 22-23 despite it being an offence to operate a children's homes without Ofsted registration theguardian.com/society/2024/a…
