What the hell are King Charles and Buckingham Palace doing. Have they got zero sense of how to handle public relations and what the public mood is. It’s true that they don’t issue an Easter message every single year. But to NOT do it this year, only weeks after issuing a Ramadan message comes across as a deliberate snub and total hypocrisy. Even if Charles is unwell, get William to do it. Simply to refuse to issue a message to the Christian church and its people of which you are the head, after doing one for Islam is guaranteed to cause uproar and at the very least is just plain stupid.

44 years ago today, during the Falklands War, my husband stood on the front line defending our British flag in the South Atlantic. This is him on the left, captured in this moment after the battle, hands on his head, taken as a prisoner of war. He fought with courage alongside his comrades in the bitter cold and harsh conditions, doing what so many young British servicemen did, answering the call to protect British sovereignty. Good Friday is a day of reflection, as Christians remember Christ’s sacrifice – and the values of compassion and hope that are at the heart of Easter. I wish Christians everywhere a peaceful day.

Buckingham Palace has reportedly confirmed that the king will not be issuing an Easter message this year. Apparently, it isn't traditional for the monarch to issue a special message at Easter. Well, fine. But the king did issue a special message for Ramadan in February. So many Christians will understandably feel slighted. And many others will see it as yet another example of asymmetric multiculturalism.

Britain has been a Christian nation for over 1,400 years. The title Defender of the Faith isn’t symbolic, it carries weight. Yet this Easter, there’s silence. To overlook the faith of the nation at its most sacred time is a real bad look.
