Ottoman Cultural Genocide: Systematic Destruction of a Millennia Old Heritage By: Ofer Binshtok In the year 630, upon entering Mecca, Muhammad destroyed all 360 idols and statues that stood around the Kaaba. This systematic act of iconoclasm is recorded in Sahih al Bukhari 2478. Quran 33:21 designates him as the "uswa hasana," an excellent model for all Muslims to emulate in every era and in every place. The Ottomans implemented this model on a massive scale. In 1453, following their conquest of Constantinople, they carried out systematic cultural genocide. Hagia Sophia, the greatest church of Eastern Christianity, was forcibly converted into a mosque. All its mosaics and paintings depicting Jesus, Mary, and the saints were covered with plaster and deliberately defaced. Dozens of additional churches and monasteries were plundered. Statues, icons, frescoes, sacred vessels, and religious treasures were looted or destroyed. During their conquests of the Balkans and Anatolia in the 14th and 15th centuries, the Ottomans systematically destroyed thousands of Christian churches and monasteries. In Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Greece, and Anatolia, entire structures were razed, looted, or forcibly converted into mosques. Frescoes, mosaics, and icons were smashed, covered over, or used as building material. Collections of historical and religious manuscripts in Serbian and Bulgarian monasteries vanished. In the years 1915 to 1923, during the Armenian Genocide, this cultural destruction reached its peak. More than 2,300 Armenian churches and monasteries, some dating back to the 4th century, were destroyed, burned, looted, or converted. Thousands of illuminated medieval manuscripts were destroyed or sold as scrap paper. Artistic treasures, entire libraries, and historic structures were wiped out in order to erase all traces of Armenian presence. The same fate befell Greek and Assyrian churches and monasteries. It was a systematic annihilation of religious and cultural heritage. The Ottomans did not commit these acts by accident. They carried out deliberate cultural genocide through mass looting, forced conversion of sacred sites, and the defacement of every Christian or Armenian symbol. Thousands of sites, hundreds of thousands of manuscripts, mosaics, icons, and monuments were erased in order to obliterate the historical memory of entire peoples. This was cultural genocide in the fullest sense of the term.

In reality her first language is Telugu, and she later admitted she couldn’t even understand her English-speaking colleagues or patients. She was sacked after just eight months at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Trust. The tribunal ruled she deliberately deceived her employer and has now been struck off the professional register. You literally couldn’t make this up.

NHS nurse Jennifer Melle, 41, has won a settlement after being branded a “risk to the public” for refusing to call a bearded convicted paedophile “she”. The 6ft male sex offender, transferred straight from a men’s prison, demanded female pronouns. Melle referred to him as “Mr” based on his medical records and her Christian faith. He then screamed racist abuse and threats at her. The trust suspended her for 10 months, reported her to the nursing regulator and treated her as the offender while issuing the paedophile only a written warning. Now they’ve apologised, paid her off and admitted no nurse should be forced to use preferred pronouns. Common sense finally breaking through the madness.

His name was Mikael Janicki. He was a 39-year-old Polish man living in Sweden. He was cycling with his 12-year-old son to the swimming pool. In a pedestrian underpass, they were surrounded and verbally harassed by a group of immigrants. Mikael turned back to confront them and protect his son. One of them, named Mohammed Khalid Mohammed Mohammed, pulled out a gun and shot him twice in the head at close range, right in front of his boy. Mikael died shortly after. The shooter, a repeat offender with prior convictions including attempted murder, was sentenced to 14 years in prison in March 2025. Four others from the group were convicted of helping the killer escape and covering up evidence. Since they were minors, they received youth care, probation with community service, and youth supervision and spent not a single day in prison.

I am a Catholic, but I must say that this Pope is moving funny to me. There is a whole Christian genocide going on in Nigeria where he once lived. But this man is more focused on the war in Iran and its politics. Hello Sir, there is a war in Nigeria and Africa too, and Christians are victims. He is the Pope of Christians first before anything else. And the welfare of Christians especially those who are being persecuted should be his priority. But Christians were massacred during Easter in Nigeria for their faith and I did not see any strong condemnation or reaction from the Pope. Instead the Pope is consistently focused on the middle East and Donald Trump's and Isreals war with Terrorists. I sincerely do not understand this Pope. It is Silence in the face of evil that makes evil multiply. What exactly does he want the world to do with terrorists who believe their destiny is to kill every unbeliever and take over the world? I hope that this Pope gets his priorities right.
