@autocar Looks nice enough apart from the "cut and paste" cheap looking interior. Would much prefer an ICE version.

@SamMorshead_ Sadly I really believe that the dream.has gone now. A tiny bit of consistency would have seen us in the top three yet here we are unlikely to even make a playoff spot and outsiders to win through even if we do secure top 7. Sad. Such a waste of opportunity.

I *think* Swindon Town have not been out of the League Two top seven since August 30. They have been, technically, perhaps the most consistent promotion candidate. Yet, at the same time, there is nothing consistent about them. Weird club. Weird league. Get us to summer.

@afneil The bigger question is lack of frigates, submarines and the total absence from the government of any political will to take decisive action in defence of the country as opposed to just talking about it.

The is arse-covering nonsense. The idea we couldn’t send warships to the Mediterranean because they were busy shadowing Russian subs closer by, is ridiculous on so many levels. But let’s just settle for this — Type 45s don’t hunt subs.
Kate Ferguson@kateferguson4

John Healey says UK ships not rushed to Middle East as they were seeing off the Russian threat in UK waters. "When a crisis erupts noisily as it has in the Middle East I understand why there are calls to send assets there. "But the greatest threats are often unseen and silent."

@RachelReevesMP You're making working people who can't afford children pay for others choices to have many. What's worse is that many haven't ever been UK taxpayers.

Today we are lifting 450,000 children out of poverty with the end of the two-child limit.  This Labour Government is achieving the biggest reduction in child poverty over a Parliament since records began.  Change promised. Change delivered.

The Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea could be up and running in just a few months. Enough gas to heat 1.6 million homes. Every single drop will go into our pipes. Ed Miliband is blocking it. Madness.

@SamMorshead_ Well said. It's very sad that the recent run of results has made the top 3 unlikely but we have to keep trying, and perhaps believing. I really worry about our ability to make it through the playoffs and I'm not sure my nerves would stand it! 6/8 wins could still see us 3rd. 🤞

Isn't winning ugly just beautiful. These are pig-in-lipstick points, but that's the way it often has to be in League Two. Better to be scrappy and successful, than pretty and purposeless. The dream remains intact. Unlikely. But intact. #stfc

@AndyRoden1 It's a shame this isn't investigated and called out more often. I heard about some of this first hand from a manager in a big contract supplier (now gone bust) many years ago. It keeps costs stupidly high and also stifles innovation.

The railway is not immune to this. Staff are perfectly capable of, say, changing a light bulb, but not allowed to do so, so a contractor charges something like £80 to do so. It adds to our industry costs and multiplied across the railway is likely to be significant.

NHS hospital: I noticed the clock on the wall showed the wrong time. A nurse told me they knew, but they wouldn’t report it because replacing the battery through the NHS would cost £70. A £2 battery... £70. How? Why? That's when I began to dig further. 🧵

@rebecca_ryder21 Badly negotiated contracts. Many suppliers are guaranteed business irrespective of performance and cost. Apparently it happened a lot alongside PFI, and likely continues. Incompetence or something more sinister? Either way, we're all paying..

@SamMorshead_ It feels like we're letting this season slip away. Hopefully the earlier good form will return 🤞 I still think it's an auto promotion place or we're staying down given our results against top teams.

@SamMorshead_ Too early perhaps, but I honestly think the only way the Town will go up is if they're in the top 3. 24 points more would be good. That's definitely within their grasp, though.

@nymr Could a temporary platform be erected on the other side of bridge 42? It might enable a continuation of rail traffic from Grosmont to Pickering, while funds are raised and restoration works are carried out. I know it's an extra cost but it will enable rail services to continue!

You do understand this only happening because your government has guaranteed a price £214/MWh based on 2024 prices and index linked for 20 years. Just about the most expensive electricity anywhere in the world — and you’ve locked it in for two decades. Do you have any idea what you’re doing …
