I shot this video while on a boat in the Rio Grande in Del Rio, TX on 9/18/2021 as 15,000+ Haitians flooded across the border illegally and set up a camp underneath the international bridge. Mayorkas later admitted 12,000+ of them were released into the U.S. Many of them later discarded their IDs and paperwork showing they had been living and working in South American countries for years (mostly Chile) as they prepared to make fraudulent asylum claims. Their documents were all over the ground. We collected many of them. House will vote on extending Haitian TPS today at 1:30pm.

Here are some facts, that you seem to have missed. 1) I have consistently voted for and supported legislation to secure our border and shut down Joe Biden’s disastrous open border policies. 2) I have voted to fully fund ICE and CBP and opposed the Democrats efforts to abolish ICE. 3) I have opposed sanctuary cities and states, supported legislation to ban it and blocked local legislation to make our district a sanctuary. 4) I have voted for the Laken Riley Act and voted to ensure DWIs are included in deportable offenses. 5) I have fully supported deporting all criminal aliens. Period. 6) I have supported the SAVE America Act to require voter ID and proof of citizenship to register to vote. 7) the Dignity Act is NOT Amnesty. It has 3 components: 1) enshrines President Trump’s border policies into law; 2) reforms our legal immigration system to fix the broken visa system and makes it a more merit based system; and 3) tackles the undocumented and brings them out of the shadows. Specifically, anyone who came under Biden would NOT qualify and no one would be eligible for citizenship. They have to prove continuous residence in the US for more than 5 years, would have to pay a fine, pay all back taxes, cannot collect government benefits, cannot commit a crime, and must work continuously. To reiterate, they would not have a path to citizenship. It is not amnesty. It is dealing with reality of a broke system that has been in effect for 40 years. 8) with respect to Haitian TPS — these folks have lawfully been in the United States for upwards of 15 years, working in our communities and contributing to our economy. The President has the right to end TPS, however, there must be a process to allow them to contain working while their immigration status is being adjudicated. Just ending it and removing their work authorization will create a crisis in our hospitals, our nursing homes, our child care facilities, and more. Representing a district that has the second largest Haitian diaspora per capita, I can tell everyone first hand it would create a crisis. These individuals are here lawfully and legally — and there should be a transition, especially for those that have been lawfully in the country for more than 5 years. To be clear, I do not support amnesty and do not support a pathway to citizenship for those who came into the country illegally. I am against open borders and sanctuary cities. I fully support the effort to deport criminal aliens. But our immigration system is way more complicated than people want to allow and there are real issues that have to be addressed if we are to stop illegal immigration and fix a broken system.
