Britain has gotten poorer over the last decade. Brexit didn't work. Disposable income has fallen more than in other European countries and certainly more than in the US. They cut their nose off despite their economic face, a populist, nationalist, emotional decision, and now they're stuck because you can't get the same deal with the EU you once had. People are done with both parties and they want to throw the bums out. Now Farage is rising. I've met him and think he’s a con. Go read his economic proposals — some of them are hate-based, some are tribally based. Farage's broader economic proposals are populist noise that will make the country weaker and hurt the very people supporting him.

In the heart of Europe, 9 million people are denied the right to choose their own future. But Belarusians have not given up. We remember who we are. We know what we deserve. Freedom will come. 🤍❤️🤍

In today’s Wumao Soup, we’ll talk about Taiwan, the sovereign country the Chinese Communist Party insists is not a country, but constantly threatens to invade just like a country, while the “antiwar” crowd is eagerly encouraging them to start that war, endangering millions. 1/20

Petraeus: Putin is the personification of evil. He wants to reassemble as much of the former Soviet Union or Russian Empire as he can, and he does not believe Ukraine has a right to exist as an independent country. We did not listen carefully enough. 1/

🇺🇦 Ukrainian tennis player Oleksandra Oliynykova scored her first-ever win over a russian opponent at Roland Garros and then openly spoke about double standards in WTA. “Many russian athletes actively participate in propaganda, play in Gazprom-linked tournaments, and openly support Putin,” she said after the match. Oliynykova also revealed that she had been pressured by the WTA for months over her public statements about russian players and the war. According to her, officials demanded she stop mentioning certain athletes by name and threatened her with fines and even disqualification.

"Taking shelter from Russia’s retaliation in a Kyiv metro station early Sunday, Nataliia Zvarych recounted a night of “horror.”" Really, CNN? Retaliation? In 1944, CNN would have called the V attacks on London "retaliation for the Allies' bombing of peaceful German cities"!

Let's be fair. Mentioning Ukraine again from its largest account after almost a month from the last time is a considerable improvement from Amnesty's usual rate.
Amnesty International@amnesty

Russia’s drone and missile strikes on Dnipro, Ukraine are the latest in a series of attacks on the country amid Russia's ongoing war of aggression. The strikes, which happened earlier today, injured at least 18 people. Among them were children. The attacks hit civilian buildings and set them alight, causing firefighters to attend the scene. Last week, Russia carried out one of its largest aerial attacks yet on Ukraine, involving over 1,500 long-range drones and missiles. In Kyiv alone, one Russian strike on a residential building killed at least 24 people including children, as rescuers cleared the rubble. Across the city, dozens of civilians were injured and residential buildings were damaged. Earlier that day, other Ukrainian cities, including Rivne and Ivano-Frankivsk, were also under attack, with civilians killed and injured there as well. A UN vehicle carrying aid to Ukraine’s southern city of Kherson was also struck last week, followed by another hit while the delivery was underway. Amnesty International has documented numerous war crimes and other crimes under international law committed by Russian forces since the beginning of its war of aggression against Ukraine. This includes deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. These are crimes under international law. Russia’s aggression must be stopped, and civilians in Ukraine must be protected.

Putin's renewed attacks on Ukraine are initiating a fresh round of hand-wringing over what to do next. But the answer is pretty simple: Ukrainian victory.

All these threats about wiping out Kyiv that the Russians are sending to Trump reveal two important things. First is that the Russians are getting hurt badly by Ukrainian ranged strike. Second, they view Trump as their patsy.

OTD in 2014 the Russian attack of Donetsk airport began, lasting 8 months and destroying the airport. The EU punished me by approving Nordstream 2 a short while later. The message of appeasement was noted.

Newly leaked Russian documents describe “cognitive strikes” against Western audiences. The goal of these influence operations is to “deepen internal contradictions between ruling elites” and stir up protests — in part by abandoning overtly pro-Russian messaging. The strategy played out in false-flag operations across Europe, including severed pig heads left outside Paris mosques, vandalism targeting Jewish sites, and plans to frame Ukrainians for provocative attacks. Putin’s attack - including a hypersonic missile - was designed to terrorize and kill civilians. Pure evil. Now, even with its advance stopped, Moscow’s desire to invade Europe remains. Deterrence requires the West to impose costs on Russian military and dual use infrastructure. The people and leaders of Ukraine are defending their nation’s sovereignty.  All of Europe should support them, and American sovereignty benefits from Ukrainian security and victory as well.

Europe could significantly shorten the war and force Russia onto the defensive—through more weapons, joint production, tougher sanctions, and clear red lines. Yet it pursues this only half-heartedly, because national interests, elections, energy dependence, and a fear of escalation take precedence. It is less a matter of incompetence than of a lack of courage and strategic vision. A genuine *Zeitenwende* would mean treating Ukraine as an integral part of one’s own defense—rather than as a bothersome side issue.
Garry Kasparov@Kasparov63

A reminder that Russia is waging a terrorist war on Ukraine, and a reminder that standing by and watching are the richest nations on Earth, controlling the most powerful military alliance in history, an alliance created specifically to stop Russia in Europe. Sickening.
