@Andy7915886 @DropSiteNews Of course they do. It was a horror. The indiscriminate murder of thousands of civilians from Gaza and Lebanon have served to make Israel as guilty as the monsters who committed Oct 7th.

Professor Derek R. Peterson, a University of Michigan historian and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient, thanked “pro-Palestinian student activists” during a graduation speech today, for “opening our hearts to the injustices and inhumanity of Israel’s war in Gaza.” Peterson teaches history and African studies at the University of Michigan, where he also became chair of the faculty senate in 2025.

@z7654321 @DropSiteNews Criticism of the actions of Israel isn’t antisemitic. Continuing to indiscriminately murder civilians is turning people against Israel. Not against Jewish people, but against the actions of the Israeli military.

Faculty overall lean heavily left/liberal (often 10:1 or more Democrat:Republican in social sciences/humanities per prior surveys), which correlates with higher criticism of Israel. However, explicit antisemitism (IHRA-defined, including some extreme anti-Zionism) remains a minority view—though a vocal, influential one that shapes campus climate and fosters antisemitism can see be seen and heard at graduations.

@TomForsythe7 @Crimsteel_gg @katefeetie Asshole, no one said anything against due process. As thrilling as it’d be to listen to you opine about rape, I don’t have time at the moment. Perhaps someone else can jump in and explain many issues rape victims face in the criminal justice system, which is what I referred to.

@marymargrets @KenGardner11 A right-wing government would have respected institutions, would have kept a de-centralized power structure that respected the states, because of the interests of the nobility and interest in private property. Would not have pursued a unified German state

I'm not an "own the libs" guy -- in fact, I am the polar opposite of such people and I especially hate that genre of social media -- but very few things make left wingers madder than pointing out, correctly, that Nazism was a virulently anti-capitalist, pro-socialist movement.

@oddhanfoo @KenGardner11 Oh, that’s it. It wasn’t Hitler, or Nazism, it was—gasp—socialist policies. Not the dictatorial government, run by a madman.

@marymargrets @KenGardner11 The bad things that followed were only possible because of the pillars of socialist policy outlined in the platform. By giving the state overall control of everything including property, and centralizing all power in the federal executive, that allowed Hitler to operate as Furher

@oddhanfoo @KenGardner11 You’re referring to Nazis platform written in 1920, I assume? Sorry, but that’s not accurate explanation of what Nazism became. Hitler was a master propagandist—he said whatever it took to amass power. That you believe this early document tells the story of Nazism is unrealistic.

@marymargrets @KenGardner11 I give you primary sources, you give opinions. You want ppl to believe expanded welfare, property redistribution, elimination of large companies, abolishing nobility are 'right-wing' policies. I don't bend myself in a pretzel trying to explain away obvious intellectual conflicts.

@Tentmak49887517 @KenGardner11 That’s not my interpretation, but one often referred to. I suggest you read through this thread, and do a little of your own research (beyond a 1920 platform.) There’s one fact not in dispute—the Nazis were not Socialists.

@marymargrets @KenGardner11 Unsourced screen-shots ha ha. "They were just trying to appeal to ordinary people by calling themselves socialists and advocating socialist policies" is quite the dodge.

@oddhanfoo @KenGardner11 Nope. It’s more nuanced than that. Knowing something about German society, and history of that time, helps.

@marymargrets @KenGardner11 You make an assertion based in wish casting. It’s in the party name so they wanted to be seen as socialist. Three fifths of their platform was explicitly about reordering the economy on socialist ideas and cementing central government authority, as w all other socialist movements

@Tentmak49887517 @KenGardner11 Nazis weren’t claiming they were Socialists—they were trying to influence working class voters into thinking they had interests of working people in mind. They weren’t proposing Socialist policies—they just wanted to imply sympathy with working class.

Israel's mass slaughter in Gaza, enabled by the US, was a moral outrage. And now, as the @nytimes reports, Israel is applying the Gaza model in Lebanon -- and once again we Americans are enabling this moral catastrophe. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

My timeline, of course, is full of angry people (again) claiming that the Nazis didn't actually MEAN socialism ("it was just a marketing ploy" seems to be the favorite talking point). In fact, they were. And it's literally in their name. When people tell you who they are, believe them.

@katefeetie Do you favour mandatory minimum sentences for rape? If he's in prison for 20 years, or even better has been executed, suing for custody is moot.
