@BobbyMarks42 Can a trade be agreed to in principle using the rookie salary? E.g. agree on June 25th, sign and trade rookie on July 7th, using the rookie salary for matching purposes? This would keep the rookie out of some of SL, presumably. I think there's also a three year minimum on S&T?

@recspecs730 @statsinthewild0 A group can only have a 4th-place finisher with 4 pts if all four teams go 1-1-1 (WDL). blog.ryanmcshane.com/posts/2022-12-… FWIW, the current format assumes groups are formed relatively homogeneously, so performance prior to tournament and seeding matters (being 3rd seed vs 4th in group)

At Euro 2024, 4 of the 6 3rd place teams advance to the knockout round. Becoming increasingly likely that the last place team in Group E will have more points and/or better GD than 4th best 3rd-place. Why don't they just extend this to be 4 teams who don't finish 1st/2nd group?
