@ab05aled @sonukg4india Is there a complex number that wouldn't be acceptable?
English

@Trudgeteacher I agree with Djokovic, but it can be a great silo for all my ideas I have had on teaching that topic in the past that would otherwise be lost. It is also a great prompt for when I have just dealt with a behaviour issue and provides a secure feeling for full teaching days.

@rick_deckard_rh @dpernoux @sonukg4india or use any symbol that doesn't have a pre-defined operation associated with it.
English

@dpernoux @sonukg4india These 'riddles' would be better presented in the form f(a, b) = c
English

@H0H0v If we redefine the + symbol such that a+b = f(a,b) = ab + a then we create a nightmare situation that ab+a = (a^2)b+ab = (a^3)(b^2)+(a^2)b which would only be ok if a=b=1. So let's stick to 8+11=19

@ShakinthatChalk Quote from one of my (not strongest) A-level students, "if I did my GCSEs now, there is no way I wouldn't get a 9". I was inlined to agree with him.
English

A level maths not acceptable to enter teaching without a GCSE maths.
“ A Level / AS-Levels at any grade (although they are a higher level they don’t cover the breadth and
depth of a GCSE)”
The aptitude to study GCE maths far exceeds GCSE.

@AhmedKhattabUK I bet that teacher really helps an EAL student in the future. It would really help that EAL student if the teacher shows that student how to overcome a couple of hurdles in a domain that that teacher had to grapple with. Especially as I bet that teacher crushes the resit.

@sonukg4india P=24 is clearly correct if x is 3. If x is -3 it wouldn't be a triangle but at no point does it claim to be. You would have a 1D line of modulus length 2 which simultaneously has a perimeter of 0 and 4.

A computer couldn't assess all of them without more direction so I question how trivial that would be.

1/2(54-x)h = 1/2(26+x)h
54-x = 26+x
