Visited the 5th Arrondissement today including some time at the Pantheon. Physicist Leon Foucault famously installed his pendulum here; by observing the variations of oscillation over time, he demonstrated that the Earth was rotating. This is very cool.

The church weren’t so keen though, and had it removed as this new “science” concept might challenge the primacy of God. Nowadays the Pantheon is a celebration of France’s non-religious triumphs, so the pendulum is back.
