@elliotismz He's very interesting, but often difficult to read. I guess the real question is, what's the next most valuable thing you could do with your time?

@mattcmccaffrey Oh that's really cool. I've been thinking about getting into Davenport, as he seems like a very curious historical figure

@elliotismz There's a fairly detailed discussion of this and also of Herbert Davenport's ideas on opportunity cost coming in this book.

@pasonia I'm sorry you have no interest in broadening your mind. It's also a shame you support monopoly and hurting artists and creatives. Btw, the Christ reference is a meme, although I'm of course saddened to hear you're not a believer. I'll pray for you for all these things!

@mattcmccaffrey "AI, get this person off my back." "You could ask him to assume that you are right and to read literature that you don't know. Protip: don't let him know you actually don't know a single title. If you need some to throw at him though, I'm more than happy to help!"

Much as I love Ross Scott, it's been clear from the beginning that this whole problem is caused by IP rights, and that progress is impossible unless you get rid of those rights first. The EU has been clear that copyright comes before any alleged consumer rights.

'Stop Killing Games' has failed to secure new EU legislation despite having 1.3 million signatures The EU says it “cannot propose a legal obligation” requiring publishers to keep games playable after they stop being sold commercially

@pasonia My brother in Christ, this shows a misunderstanding of how creativity and profit work. There is an enormous literature spanning economics, law, ethics, policy, etc. that shows clearly that IP rights undermine innovation and destroy human welfare. Read some of this and come back.

@mattcmccaffrey If that wasn't your intention and you're going to say "I put words in your mouth" and stuff, then riddle me this - did you even understand the consequences of willy-nilly rendering intellectual property laws null and void before you made the reply?

Mises's Liberalism used to be easy to find at mises.org. It is no longer linked here: mises.org/library/book/l… I believe Mises.org used to link to the pdf and epub. But I guess it has been taken down either because of incompetence/bent priorities, an attempt to force people to purchase, or some vague copyright concerns. Who knows; but the site has been going downhill since 2012. nb @jeffreytucker See: propertyandfreedom.org/journal/my-yea… Google sleuthing found the PDF here -- get it before they notice this and take it down cdn.mises.org/Liberalism%20I… And there is also a PDF here: oll.libertyfund.org/titles/greaves… But unfortunately apparently the epub has been disappeared nb @propfreedom

They also reveal a gap in economics between the analysis of individual and social problems that would later be filled by Mises’s theory of economic calculation. All told, these papers provide a novel account of a neglected period in (Austrian) economics. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

Another advance relates to Fetter's notion of welfare economics. His articles on this theme attack crude utilitarianism and the production-focused economics of the classicals, and reply to the criticisms of Veblen and the institutionalists. /

I’m excited to dive into this new @IndependentInst book. My chapter is of course about Frank Fetter, with new material about his overlooked work on the history of economic thought. Thanks to Robert Whaples for his editorial work and @ChrisCalto91066 for suggesting me. Link👇+ 🧵:
