On one hand I’m happy because it’s a centre back signing with a lot of potential. On the other hand it’s a lot of money for a player that doesn’t really tick the boxes for me for what we need. As much as Collins and Sepp have been liabilities this season, is he really an upgrade? (Time will tell) Salzburg fans think he’s bang average (I’m sure he’s a good player), he also doesn’t have Premier League experience which is crucial. I could live with a signing like this if it meant we had a leader coming through the door to help guide him however we’ve spent a lot of money on a player who’s most likely going to be a back up centre back, isn’t left footed and hasn’t got a lot of experience in the game. I’m sure he’ll become Beckenbauer and I will always back the club’s decision making but I think we could have done better.

Chelsea are going to need to generate some serious player profit without UCL income. Very few of their acquisitions can be sold for much profit due to overpays and long amortisation schedules. It would have to be Palmer, Santos, Estevao or academy grads like Josh or Levi.
